My FAVORITE Shake Recipe...

Well, I wouldn't really call it a recipe, it only has 3 things in it, but it is the only thing I drink every morning. I use soy milk in this because I can't have any amount of dairy at all.

About 10 ozs. Silk Vanilla Soy Milk 1 scoop vanilla protein powder (I use Isopure Creamy Vanilla) 1 Crystal Light On The Go Packet (The wild strawberry energy one) Stick in a blender and go. I bought some tornado mixers from QVC. They are battery powered mixers that do wonders for this shake. The reason why these are handy is because the contents of this shake will separate. If you put it in a cup, just keep a spoon in it to mix it back up. I asked Dr. H if it was normal for them to separate like that, and he said yes, because some of the stuff is heavier than others. Anyway, if you like strawberry milkshakes and want a big boost of energy, drink one of these in the morning and off you go. Hope I don't disappoint anyone!

Do the 2 of you mix ice with these shakes?? I bought a magic bullet on ebay the other day. I am kinda excited.  Anyone who has any ideas for shakes for my upcoming surgery would be great. Take care Michelle

Michelle,   I do not put ice in my shake. All that is in mine is the protein powder, soy milk, and my Crystal Light packet. I can not drink anything really cold. My teeth are sensitive and so is my pouch. My friend Vicki has a Magic Bullet and she loves it. She uses my recipe that I posted and uses a frozen banana instead of ice. I learned my shake by trial and error, but there are soooo many sites out there for protein shakes. Go to google and type in sugar free protein shakes and go to town.

When I hit phase 2 of my diet.. I should be able to drink this I believe. Do you guys have any trouble with skim milk?  Where can I get the Vanilla Powder? What kinds of different things can you guys throw out at me for Phase 2 on things to eat? I know Cream soups.. Frozen Custard.. Thinned mashed potatoes.. Thinned puddings..  Any thing new and exciting you can throw into it?? Denise

Denise,     You shouldn't have a problem with this shake at stage 2, you may not be able to drink the whole thing though. I get my vanilla protein powder from GNC. It is called Isopure. It is a bit expensive, but I can not use any other kind, as there is to much sugar in them. I have had a really bad time with the foods I have been able to eat and was on just about all liquids until just recently. I don't think I will be much help in the stage 2 area, but I would stick with what is listed and on the advice of others. One thing I was able to eat through all of my issues was baby food. I know this may sound gross to some, but my taste changed after surgery. I know some may say this is a no-no, but I also ate sugar free ice cream and sugar free popsicles when I was at this stage. I can't have them anymore, to cold for my pouch, but they were a life saver back then (not to mention any and all dairy or lactose makes me sick). I learned by trail and error (very carefully) what I could eat. I feel like I am learning all over again, as I am 6 months out and just now getting back on solids. Just be careful and READ THE LABELS!!! Just because it says sugar free, doesn't mean it doesn't have sugars in it. Look at the label, anything over 4-6g or sugar and I'm a goner!!!

Kat, Is that because the Sugar causes Dumping Syndrome? I know we are supposed to stay away from sugar for our diet. Seems like it causes the Dumping too. Thanks for your help :)
