Dr. De La Torre
Has anyone used this doctor recently? Is he nice/good? What is the timeline from the time of the seminar to surgery? I am a self-pay so no waiting for insurance. Also I have my psych letter and am working on my primary letter. I am planning on attending the July seminar. Anyone else out there going to the same one? Also it says that they are very selective...has anyone been turned away? Anything you can tell me would be great!
Amanda
I will have my surgery with Dr. De La Torre on June 18th.
He's great to say the least!
Being self pay you should get through the process a little quicker then I but my timeline is on my profile.
There are several of us on here. Which hospital are you going to? He's is at more then one.
I am going University Of Missouri in Columbia.

Yes. I had my gastric bypass on 4/17/07. He is very nice, and will answer any questions. I went to the seminar in Nov, and by choice waited until January to begin the process. My first appointment with De La Torre was 2/8/07. I was required to do a sleep study, pulmonary function test, psych eval, letter from primary, and labs. I also attended the pre-op seminar with the nutritionist for 1/2 day...in Columbia, they refer to this as option b, I believe. And due to lab results, I had to get some additional blood clotting labwork done, and saw a specialist, which took an extra month. I felt that the turn around time was excellent. When I got the call that I was approved, it took less than a week and a half to get a surgery date (which was 2 1/2 weeks away).
Make sure you don't gain any weight before surgery, I have heard that they will cancel your surgery.
Good luck with your surgery, and God bless!
