Hello to all of you,
I just want to give you some words from someone 22 weeks and 60 pounds lighter (86 pounds from my weight when I started the six month diet/exercise program). There is no problem with having fears and aprehension. This is major surgery we're talking here. I don't know if you guys are having the band or RNY but either way it's surgery. I had RNY and it was the very best thing I have ever done for myself, health and appearance wise. I had type II diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol, urinary incontinence, and I have rheumatoid arthritis. All of those problems are either gone or so much improved that they cause me no concern. Right now my arthritis is in remission and blood sugars, blood pressure and cholesterol are all great. The incontinence is about 90%improved, no big deal anymore!!!
I know your families are all worried for you but this is your chance at a healthy normal life, you are really not only having this for yourselves but for your husbands/boyfriends and children. They are getting someone who will be healthier, more fun, more active and able to live a longer happier life.
There will be difficult times, days you won't feel as well. Prepare your family for that. The first few weeks you may be a little moody and sad, you're giving up your best friend - food. However, when you start to feel a little stronger and see those pounds come off you will be flying high. And the way you feel is amazing as you lose you gain mobility, health and happiness. What a trade off.
I am 62 years old and I'm so glad I had the surgery. Don't know why I waited so long - actually I do, I waited until I had insurance to pay for it. However, I am glad you young women will be able to have so many more good years.
There will be lots of questions and you'll find that I am a blunt person, tend to answer your questions without sugar-coating my replies (you can't have sugar anyway)!!! But remember that all of us here love you guys and want only success and happiness for you.
We're praying for all of you.
Hugs,
Lana
