I went for my first visit with the surgeon. I have letters of referral from both my doctors (pcp and rheumatoid arthritis dr). I go for my psych eval. on Tuesday (Jul 11). They told me after they get the psych eval then they turn it into the insurance for approval. I got my fingers and toes crossed and praying hard. I just hope that after the psych eval they don't lock me up (lol). Wish me luck. Everyone on the boards seem very nice and supportive. I have been reading everyday jus****ching for pointers and helpful comments. Sheila

mostly all the psch doc wants to know is if you are competent enough to know that there are rules that you will have to follow once you have surgery for the rest of your life. It isnt a big deal that we make it out to be. So relax and it will be ok. What surgeon are you going to? Will pray that this all happens for you quickly. Jan

Just remember, if it becomes an issue, that Missouri law requires policies issued in Missouri to cover the psych exam (they have to cover two visits per year for evaluation/diagnosis, and this is the purpose of the psych exam), so don't let the insurance company get away with trying to deny it. The only way they could is if your policy is not actually issued in Missouri.

It's good to know about the insurance covering a psych eval as it is going to cost $308. They told me I would have to pay it up front at the office. I dug it up but now I am going to make sure it is filed with my insurance company also. Thanks! Sheila
