Why don't I dump?
Never say never. A small piece of chocolate cake just may not be enough to bring you over the edge. Add ice cream and maybe? Put it on top of a full meal? On an empty stomach? Everyone is different and has different tolerances for sugars and fats.
I "never" dump on fats and can tolerate a horrendous amount of sugar (at times), but I have dumped plenty in my 5 years...the worst in my life was on cherry Nyquil!
I could have begged anyone to shoot me that night. I've also had to lay in the car after pancakes and syrup at IHOP, but I can eat a few fun size candy bars and be ok. So who knows??
So my advice is don't pu**** Assume you may dump and those last 100 lbs will come off easier. Take it from an old-timer.

First of all,my oldest sister's name is Lois. You are in good company. Secondly, I don't dump either. I have no idea why. I can pretty much eat anything I want, of course not in the quantities Iused too but I can still eat pretty much anything. A few thing bother me, like pasta and rice, can't eat very much of those but that is ok. Mabe we will start dumping later in our journey. Just have to wait and see.
Not sure how "accurate" this is or not, but my surgeon had said that there may also be a correlation to the AMOUNT of intestines bypassed. I dump still to this day and I know that he bypassed more of my intestines than "normal" . (not exactly sure what that means, but whatever) Of course you can still get 2 people that had the same amt bypassed and 1 dumps while the other doesn't.
I know that sugar and fat content are triggers for me in general, but I also have certain other foods. I can eat a scrambled egg or an omlet and I'm fine, but if I eat a fried egg (I use non stick spray for all eggs, so it's not a matter of butter or fats or anything) or a poached egg I dump and vomit w/in minutes. Ice cream is another one. I've tried low-fat, fat-free, low sugar, sugar free and ALL of them make me dump. I woman I used to work w/ a few years back had her WLS maybe 2yrs before me and she never dumped. I would get so ticked off at her because she was eating candy bars and ice cream for her MEAL, and all I had to do was LOOK at the stuff and felt sick.
I've also been told at my follow-up appts that the program I went through has seen 'dumpers' stop dumping 2,3,4 + yrs after surgery and those that didn't dump start dumping years after their WLS.

Lois...........live with the thought that "this" food might just be the one to dump on you. You have NOT lived until you have had this happen. I've been rather lucky, 4x in 6.5 months and I'm glad! glad that it happens now and then to remind me that the tool still is doing it's thing for me!
