I went in for surgery this morning and completely freaked out and couldnt do it.  I just got so scared.  I kept thinking about my kids and it was just awful.  Needless to say, I feel like crap now.  So I am going to get my thoughts together for a few weeks and figure out if this is really what I want to do.  It sucks, I feel like such a failure.
Thank you to everyone for the support that I have received.

Awww Hun I am so sorry this happened.  Please definitely think about it good and hard before you try again if you do.  I understand the anxiety but it also really isn't fair that you had a date and time, medical personal waiting and did not go through with it.  That was one spot that someone who was ready could have had.  Again I do not mean to sound unsympathetic- It is a hard decission for some and very scary- But we should not schedule a surgery unless we Know we are ready.  Best Wishes hun with your choice today and your reevaluation of what you want to do in the future concerning wls.

Hugs!

Cherilynn

P.s.  I know people in the surgical field- my opinion could be partial to knowing what a last minute cancellation does to the staff =(

Shelley...when the time is right you will know it. No one will judge you here for changing your mind. You aren't the first and won't be the last.

Think more about it...weigh your options and maybe even go to a few more seminars or support groups. Good Luck!!

Hugs, connie d

You are NOT a failure! Oh my goodness, quite the contrary! You took a huge step and chose surgery to cure your disease of obesity. That's huge girl!

Definitely take your time to regroup, come here to ask any questions you might have lingering.

This is a head trip. Don't do it before you're ready Shelly! I fully believe you have to be in the right place before you do this.

I'm here for you & support you 100%!

I don't think you are a failure at all, in fact quite the opposite.  It's very brave to realize you aren't ready.  There are  A LOT of people who do go through with it and aren't ready and really struggle.

Surgery isn't for everyone, it may not be for you right now, or ever...but you aren't the first and you won't be the last to change their mind ...

Take some time, then go and talk to Dr Benn, he will understand what you are going through and he can help you work out your feelings.

good luck!  and please don't think it as a failure, just think of it as a not today....

Shelly,  Personally I think that you are very brave for making your decision.  This surgery is a life-changing decision that you can't take back without an even more serious surgical intervention.  There are a lot of advantages to the surgery and from my perspective the advantages become more apparant the farther post-op that you get, but there are hours and days that totally bite too especially newly post-op.  So, if you're not 100% ready for it, then I honestly believe that you shouldn't do it.

I would go in and talk with your surgical staff honestly about your concerns about safely making it through the surgery.  For liability reasons they obviously can't guarentee your success, but I think that they can offer a lot of comfort and reassurance to you.  I know that I was very concerned about having the surgery at 430 pounds (down from my pre-liquid diet weight of 465).  I know that some surgeons won't even operate on people as large as me so I was concerned that my risks were higher.  The surgical team was able to look at my individual concerns and explain to me their experience in working with high BMI people and I felt much better after talking with them.

Take your time and think things through, but please don't feel bad and don't avoid your surgical team because you feel bad.  They're there to help you and I know from talking with one of the nutritionists on my surgical team that they feel really bad when someone does something they feel bad about and then don't come back.  The team really wants to help you achieve your goals...no matter what you decide.

I wish you the best and will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.
