OT: Personal attack on me & my faith at lunch

Thank you Connie!  Yes I am firm in my beliefs, which is why I walked away when I did, because if I would have stayed and engaged in the debate I would have said some not so nice stuff and it would have been quite the drama, because I am very passionate about my faith.  I agree with you and Kelly and will return to the cafeteria for lunch tomorrow.  If nothing else it is a nice break from my desk during the day.  Love & Hugs!  Nicole

That's a touchy subject and open to so many intereptations.  Pardon the spelling.  I've found that people who are anti or non-Christian usually don't know what the heck they're talking about, they pick out bits and pieces and are an authority on nothing.  My attitude is ....whatever....and I stick to my beliefs that I've learned through church.  Let it go or say a prayer for that "friend", that her eyes are opened someday.

Edi~  Thank you!  I am planning on putting her in my prayers tonight and everynight, because she has a lot of bitterness due to her childhood and having to go to church all the time.  Yes this woman likes to pick and choose what she believes and then strings it together to make up a story she likes.  I am hoping to avoid any religous based discussions in the future and have learned that I need to cut it off at the very glimmer of it or it starts to snowball and then things like today happen.  Love & Hugs!  Nicole

Sorry this happened to you, Nicole.  I agree with others, that we are all allowed to make our own choices and have our own opinions - that's what makes this such a wonderful country to live in.  I don't think you have to contact Musa again, either.  Your coworkers didn't experience your relationship with him and don't know what happened.  I have caller ID on my home and cell numbers and I don't answer if the number is listed as "unknown."  That's what I pay for it for!!!  I've been stabbed in the back by people I've talked to about personal things and I'm real cautious about what I divulge now.  Feel free to vent whenever you need to!

Nancy, I don't dispute that everyone is entiteled to their opinion, it just bothered me that she presented it as a proven fact.  I am not contacting Musa, I have also learned my lesson on answering "resticted" calls, I won't be doing that again and I now no longer answer any number I don't recognize.  I am learning that I need to be more careful in who I share what with after this, I am keeping lunch conversations to very basic simple topics.

Oh, I agree with you.     I didn't mean it to sound like she should have presented it as fact.  She certainly could have voiced her opinion without sounding like that.  I, too, have backed off from discussing certain topics or much about my personal life...just not worth it with some people!

Not a problem.  I just wanted to clarify that I wasn't attacking her just for  not believing the same thing as I do.  I agree certain topics will now be avoided like the plauge with these people!

Religion is such a touchy subject.  That's one of the many reasons I love the MN board - everyone is so supportive of religious beliefs, etc.  I've learned it is a subject best left untouched at work.  As for your situation with Musa, if he calls again, tell him if he doesn't cease and desist the phone calls you will file a harrassment report with your local police precinct.  That's what I did when I was in a very similar situation as you and the phone calls stopped.

Lois, I have actually thought about the threat of harrassment report, but figured my dad might be even more intimidating than that!  I really hope that it doesn't come to that.  Yes, I will be doing everything possible to keep away from any conversation that might even possibly go there.

I am so sorry to hear about what you went through. This woman is almost reading a traditional Anti Catholic script.  When people are that far off base, it is impossible to reason with them.  Religion is a hot button, issue, no doubt about that. If you ever want any other info about Catholic teaching pm me and I will be glad to give you further info. This forum is just not an appropriate place to discuss Catholic teaching. The other folks who have also replied have also given you good advice. I hope this situation is resolved soon, but feel free to get in touch with me
