I was wodering if anyone out there has experienced an ulcer yet in the pouch or intestine?   Have you related it to whey protein?   I have been experiencing extreme stomach/pouch pain.  It started after drinking a 50 gram whey protein shake from GNC.  That was on Saturday. I had an appointment with my surgeon yesterday and he is treating me for an ulcer.  I went online to see what info I could get and I found a site that talks about "Bezoars" . There are four types and one of them is caused from Whey protein.  My surgeon did not give me this info before (which I would have appreciated becasue I consume alot of whey protein as an alternative to animal protein. )  Special K protein water, protein bars, yogurt, ect... The site has alot of info on it that is very informative that my dr. did not mention.  http://drsimpson.net.  Hopefully you willfind this info helpful..  Let me know.  I googled ulcer after RNY Stephanie

Oh.. I also forgot to mention that I was on Prilosec OTC for the first four monthes post op.  I just went off three weeks ago.  Prilosec is in place of Prevoced which is a prescription.  Prevoced was 300.00 for two months.  Prilosec is 25.00 per month.   Pharmacist says they are the same thing. Dr.  put me back on Prilosec yesterday.  I guess it helps eliminate pouch and intestinal ulcers before they start.  He recommended 6 monthes.  Hope this helps. Hi Stephanie I'm sorry that you're dealing with this. I am 5+ years out. About 2 years ago, I was having really bad pouch pain and my doctor did an endoscope and found that I had at ulcer right where the stoma is attached to the intestines. I don't do protein shakes, so know that it wasn't from that. They told me it was because I have quite a bit of acid in my pouch.  Lucky me.....   My doctor put me on Prilosec. She actually gave me a prescription for generic Prilosec, because Prilosec is pretty expensive. Depending on your prescription coverage, it may be cheaper to buy it that way. I only paid $10 for a 3 month supply. The name for generic Prilosec is:  Omeprazole. They gave me 20 mg capsules.  I did this for about a couple months. The pain went away and then when we moved to California, I wanted to have it checked again. They did another scope and found that it was gone.  Hope this helps. Peggy
