I had surg 6 months ago and have been having a hard time staying on track over the last month.  I find myself snacking,  i don't want to resort to my old habbits I didn't go through all of this to fail.  I am down 93 pounds and feel so much better about myself. but I need support from people that have gone through this themselves.  I have seen people that have failed in this surg and I don't want people seeing me fail.  I don't want to fail. I love being in a size 14.

Can anybody help me and give me any advice on how to stay on track.

I'm still pretty early out but I'm betting the older timers would tell you to get to support group. Good luck hon

Come here, as often as possible.  This is the best place for cheerleading and kicks in the pants! Also, log your food intake.  Find out why you're snacking - is it emotions, are you actually hungry?

Being on here has helped me. But the best has been joining others at the coffee get togethers. You find out how not alone you really are, and can help you get back on track. It's helping me.

First of all WTG on the 93lbs. lost. I am still only a month and a half out but I find I'm not as hungry when I fill up on liquids. I found a south beach strawberry-banana protien mix that you can add to water that tastes really yummy and that makes me less hungry. Hang in there you have come really far.

Congrats on your surgery and your weight loss - fantastic job. Personally, I have quite a bit of experience with struggling with old habits and I'm not going to tell you its easy.  Because of it - I've only lost 10 pounds since September and I'm not even a year out yet. Recently, I started implementing a little trick.  EVERY time I want to eat something when I shouldn't I distract myself by drinking a bottle of water or get up and walk for 5 minutes.  If after the distraction (mind you I have to wait 30 minutes after drinking the water) I still want a snack I allow myself to have it.  This way, you're trying to instill a new habit, but you're not punishing yourself.  Plus, sometimes just having the distraction means that by the time my distraction activity is over I've forgotten that I wanted to eat in the first place. Give it a try - it's working for me for now. Good luck - this journey isn't "the easy way out," it does take work.  But even if you "fail" along the way - you're only a FAILURE if you don't learn from your mistake and move on. Take care!

Yep! It's so easy to let those old habits creep back. I was stress snacking there for a while. Now, I am back on track and doing things by the book. Try to figure out why you are snacking. For me it was stress. Are you bored? stressed?  Then, figure out a way to fix that problem. If you are bored, try a new hobby out. If it's stress, fix what is causing you so much stress.  Or- are you depressed? Then you really need to seek help soon to get that controlled.  Good luck! Lori

Hey Tric - welcome! I'm not one of the old pro's myself yet, but I have noticed a few snacking habits creeping back in.  Recognizing that it's happening is the first thing, and obviously, it's a GOOD thing!  Now try some of the suggestions you've read here, I really like Tracy's suggestion of distracting yourself.  But you do need to make sure you don't have "naughty" snacks even available, if at all possible!  If you have a family,it's hard to banish all evil snacks from your home - but if you can't get rid of them altogether, at LEAST be sure to have some good choices available!  My favorites are all protein-based; beef jerky, pepperjack cheese, string cheese (I think Frigo is the BEST, available at Wallyworld); protein bars and shakes.  If I do decide, against my better judgement, to have some Fritos or something like that?  I will take just one small handful and put them in a bowl or a cup, and enjoy each individual chip for the treat it is!  I mean, we're still HUMAN, right?  I don't think it's realistic to NEVER have another "worthless" snack, we just have to choose smart more often than not. Good luck and WAY TO GO on the loss this far!!!  WOO HOO!!!!!
