hi everyone.. well.. I'm 3 days out from my RNY surgery.. can anyone help?  I CANNOT do soup / hot choc / cappacuino .. etc for dinner. I'm SICK OF THE POWERED FOOD.. i didn't buy enough of the chili or spaghetti to get me thru til monday night and all I have left is this: soup, hot cocoa, capp, strawberry jello/drink mix (gross), soup, soup and more soup.  I just want SOMETHING low residue.. can I have ONE HARD BOILED EGG?  If that's all I have. .just to get me over this damn hump I seem to be having?  I'm very "tearful" today as I'm just feeling so hungry (I loved the chili but I'm out and cant' get any before surgery on tuesday). Any suggestions?  I just want to go to bed and sleep my next few days away...........

I cant say due to simply not knowing......  BUT, it does sound like this is a HUGE test for you and you've come to far to fail.  Only 3 more days.....  Making the right choices for the rest of your life wont be easy.  Your at one of those "choices" right now.....  You can do it. Take control, get through these last 3 days and be proud of yourself.

Only a couple more days and you'll be through this.  I know it's hard, but stick with it.  You can do it!!!  What about sugar free jello?  That may help stem some of the cravings you're having -- don't know what your doc/nut has said.  If it's any comfort, the hardest part of the journey for me were those last few days BEFORE surgery.  It's the largest hurdle that many of us face in terms of our pyschological dependency on food -- after surgery it just seems easier to handle the cravings. Good luck, you'll be on the losers bench with us before you know it!! --Sax

thanks everyone.  I went to the better health store and a WONDERFUL friend here called me and said she read my post and knew i was having a hard day.. (terrrrrrrrrrible day).. said to buy boca chili.. well, they didn't have that.. but they had the ground up boca burger that looked like the "meat" in our chili, so I bought that.  I am going to have a 1/2 cp of that with my allowed salsa (we're allowed 2 tbs a day).. I'm sure that will get me over this hump.  God sure is testing me right now..LOL thank you again

Annette, I don't want you to take this post the wrong way.....please don't!  I just want to point something out to you (and others that are going to go through this) that I wish someone would have said to me when I was pre-op. Write down how you're feeling now....how awful not having something you want is.  How badly you want to just scream because this food is gross.  It's really important for you to realize that this is the hold that food has on you.  After your surgery, you won't really care about it, but then one day, it will come back if you don't deal with it. I was under the impression that I wouldn't care about what I ate after surgery.  I thought that because I'd be eating such small amounts that it really wouldn't matter to me.  Trust me, it matters!  Recognize that you feel like one hard boiled egg is going to make everything ok again.  You don't yet feel like food is just fuel for your body- so who cares if that food tastes good or is crunchy or is exactly what you are craving?   I never felt that way and I don't think I ever will, which is why I'll always struggle with weight issues. I really wish you success, and it sounds like you dealt with your bad day and I'm sure you'll be fine until surgery day and after.  I just wanted to give you a little hint that might help you in your journey and realize how to stay on track as you progress. Hope all goes well with you!

thank you, I do write EVERYTHING DOWN.  I am the first to say this is a terrible addiction.  I've told my docs and the NUT, they said the same thing, no different than putting drugs in front of someone going thru drug treatments... I need substance, food.  It doesn't have to be an egg.  It could be anything I could CHEW instead of swallowing or melting in my mouth (soup/jello)..  But thank you for the support, I certainly appreciate it .. I'll be glad, as I told the PA, when I don't depend on food so much.  It's very very hard :-(

Girl, you don't have to tell me how hard it is! You're doing a great job so far....keep it up! I totally cheated during my pre-op and took 3 Cheerios and let them melt in mouth.  I thought I was in heaven!  That right there told me that I was in trouble!  After surgery, you might have this feeling again, where you just want to chew something.  I can't remember what I did to help that.  Hopefully someone else can give you advice on that.   Thanks for being open to suggestions and not being offended, and remember we're all here for you!

Annette, I know it is mentally tough and it is hard fighting with those brain feelings.. What you have left at home that you don't like, might taste differently to you after your surgery. I never could hand;e the hot chocolate or cappaccino flavors, but, maybe try adding your salsa or some type of seasoning to those soups(Mrs. Dash's can hide the flavor of many Bariatrix products).. Part of our food "Cravings or not wanting things you have or the flavors are mixed with emotions since your day is getting closer,,, Keep pushing in tha****er-- try to think of the products you brought home as nutritional supplements only. I think that is how I got through for a long time. I just kept saying that- it didn't have to taste good its job was to keep my nutritional levels up.. I figured later on, when I was back on real food, I could start choosing the healthy "tasty type items. You can do it Annette, Dr. Baker is a good surgeon but for your optimal experience, try to not stray from the plan they have set up for you. Soon it will be all worth it.. Amy
