Going to the WLS Seminar tonight, what to expect?
RNY on 12/18/12
I am attending a seminar for WLS tonight at St Vincent Hospital in Carmel, IN. It's about a 2 hour drive for me, but my step mother went there and reccomended it. She had a positive experience there a year ago and is doing quite well.
What should I bring with me? What should I expect at the seminar?
A good WLS seminar should go over the following:
- The different types of surgery they perform at that hospital (lap-band, RNY, DS)
- An explaination of how each surgery type works and what happens to your guts inside
- An explaination of the success rates of each type of surgery
- An explaination of the risk factors for each type of surgery
- A little bit about how insurance covers surgery and some common requirements you'll have to fulfil
- An introduction to the staff and an overview of the aftercare program they offer (exercise therapy, psychologists, medical doctors, nutritionist, specialized nursing, etc.)
You may also have the chance to set up an appointment for your first consultation after the seminar.
Bring a pad of paper and pen to take notes.
