I tried the chili!
It wasn't too bad! I was expecting some thing that would make Alpo seem gourmet. I also waited longer than the directions said. To boost protein I added a 99% fat free chicken tender I had just cooked and a few of those BBQ soy things for some more texture.
One reason I let it rest so long though is that I was waiting for the protein pellets to dissolve. When they weren't doing anything after 25 min I thought I did something wrong. Upon further inspection I realized it was veggie meat.
The package said veggie chili so I thought it was without any meat - real or otherwise.
So far, nothing repulsive!!! (I don't like spaghetti so I am holding off on that one.)

the chili was my favorite...
i put a little bit of taco sauce (no sugars or fats) bout a tablespoon in it..... and its pretty good....
gotta be careful about adding any real foods like meats...Christine said that was a no-no...i called and asked...lol
im finally done with that damn diet, but i was on it for 3 weeks..... well worth the 36 lbs ive lost...
my day is tomarrow....and yours will be here before ya know it!!!!
Oh gwen, I don't know what to say other than you have to be really creative and make your mindrealize that it is just sustanance, just eating fuel- not a gourment meal.
There are ways to try and make them appear more appetizing like others have said, many peopel like to add seasoning to the chili(which is the least appaling of all in many opinions)
WHen I didi the diet it was just shakes- no soups, no puddings, just shakes, , This is a far cry from where we started from, You have protein bars and soy chips(things that crunch and chew), It is meant mostly as a way to get you used to eating smaller portions and to not being so depemdant on food. using it for the noursishment aspect only. You can do it, Later on after your surgery, you will learn how to re-introduce those items back into your diet at the right amount that may have caused problems before.. It does work, and you can do it..
Best of luck for a successful preop and operaion..

Thanks Amy!
I have been trying to get a head start. I started a food journal last week and I haven't been eating past 6:00 PM - most times I am done by 5:30 (like tonight), but sometimes if I am up really late, then I get hungry and have had to have something before bed. I have been getting 64-100 oz of water in a day too.
I am kind of in pre-pre-diet wonderland. I have the sample box, but am just eating stuff willie-nillie. I decided a few days ago to just wait until I see Christine.....then I thought I'd better try to eat as much of it (not in one setting) so that I could pick out food if needed. I guess I'm missing something, but I thought the 2 weeks pre-surgery diet was only liquids??? I thought that 'food' food was for easing back to a regular post-surgery diet.
I am not a picky eater - Is that good or bad? I have read a few posts that describe the food as nothing less than revolting. If I were that picky, I probably wouldn't have a weight problem.
I heard a term that does fit and it is Eating Amnesia. Since I am not driven by food I don't focus on it and fail to see how much I actually do consume. That is where the food journal has been really helpful.
