My husband had BCBSIL HMO for a several years and switched to BCBSM PPO as of March 1, 2008. Will I not get approval now because we just started insurance policy with them?

OHHH, You are lucky girl!  This is the BEST insurance by far.  Same as Katrina, the process was so unbelievably easy.  And the plastics are covered too.     The only thing.... when you need therapy, its rigoring the forms you have to fill out.  It is filtered through Magellan.  I mean, come on, I am seeking help here, don't screw with me..... Best of Luck, Sarah

Hi Sarah, I didn't know BCBS covered plastics?  How does one go about it to get the coverage?  I am not to that stage yet, but curious.   Thanks, Patti

As far as I know BCBS does not have any type of 'pre-existing condition' clause or waiting period.  Generally those things only apply when there's been a significant lapse in coverage from one policy to another, but it sounds like you will not have any lapse... so you'll be fine, I'm sure.  I have BCBS of MI PPO and everything has been a breeze to deal with.  I loved the no-pre-approval thing with them.  Give them a call tomorrow and ask for specifics on the coverage for bariatric surgery on your specific policy.  That's the best way to get the correct information. I too have BCBSM PPO.  There is a restriction.  And here it is.  If your BMI is 50 and over you do not need any prequalification.  If it is less that 50, then you have to have at least 6 months of dieting.  You will need the proof.  I did the 6 month thing with a nut and it was good enough.  So good luck to you!!! Every policy has differences, and covers whatever the issuer pays for.  You need to call them to ask for the coverages that are available to you through your husbands company.  BCBSMI where I work covers weightloss surgeries and programs, but where my brother works, it is all excluded. Kevin
