Have 1st appt tomorrow (physical) - question help needed
I have a list of pretty basic questions. I am not sure what all I should be asking. I am also not sure what all I need to take. I did leave a voice mail with my PCP's PA to have weight history faxed to MMPC...but they are twits. I didn't bother checking up since multiple requests don't produces much better results than just requesting things once. (My luck they'll fax DH's and it will say I am 140 lbs!! Don't I wish!
)
I have called my insurance co and I am pre-approved with my BMI >50. My therapist also said my weight history - just being obese all my life and being 35 - usually helps put out any fires.
Since I don't know for sure what all they are going to expect I am going to photocopy some pictures of me (I have very few though) as proof this wasn't a recent weight gain.
I know it is last minute.....I'd love anything anyone can give me though!
TIA!
Gwen

Gwen, Relax! Deep breaths...It's going to be ok! You don't need to bring anything with you except your questions. MMPC will help you with your requirements. I would try and get a copy of your medical history (including weight data). I had to physically go and get it myself from my doctor. I kept a copy just in case it got lost somewhere along the line.
You are going to do great!
Thanks. I don't want to find out I should have had something done prior - even though MMPC and my insurance said that as long as I am in the >50 BMI group I don't need to do much of anything. I know it can't be that simple and feel like there is something obvious I am overlooking.
I'll call my PCP's office to see if they faxed my weight history in the morning. I can pick up a copy if they didn't.
Thanks again!
Gwen
i don't recall taking anything with me. i believe all the questions they asked of me were pretty basic, or pertaining to the info i had already filled out. seems as though i recall going over my meds, some of the testing they may require (sleep studying, pap smear, etc...) and if i had any of these things within the last year they marked it down and requested the required information from the proper physician (i did none of the leg work). they will ask if you have narrowed in on which surgery you would like to pursue, but of course that discussion will go into more depth with the surgeon.
and don't worry ~ they will be taking a picture of you!!

Highest Known Weight = 370# / 59.7 bmi @ 5'6"
Current Weight = 168# / 26.4 bmi : fluctuates 5# either way @ 5'7" / more than 90% EWL
Normal BMI (24.9) = 159#: would have to compromise my muscle mass to get here without plastics, so this is not a goal.

i was the same way.. i just had my internist appointment last week too. is yours with dr. white? she is actually really nice, patient, listened to all of my questions.. the nurses and staff are very patient and helpful too. i don't know about you, but i also appreciated the exam table because i didn't feel like i was going to break it. things like that really put people at ease, and it did that for me. like kim said, they do the calling, etc for you. my BMI is also over 50, and i have BCBSM.. so i don't have to do a lot other than show up to the appointments. if you haven't had a sleep study before, they might send you for one. my own doctor anticipated that, so i was scheduled for it before i saw the internist for the first time.
good luck to you.. if you have any questions, let me know. i was like you are too.. i just wanted to know EVERYTHING to expect!
