No pre-approval?

I called BCBS Fed Employees today to just see how long the approval process was once everything was submitted.  I saw the surgeon last week and I was just wondering how long it would take til I heard something. Anyway, they told me there was no pre-approval needed.  Has anyone heard this before?  The rep said that gastric bypass is now a routine surgery and as long as I met the approved qualifications and was seeing a BCBS physician I was good to go. I am still in a state of disbelief about how easily this is happening.  Because my BMI was >40 I wasnt required to do the supervised diet and now no pre-approval.  I just keep waiting for the other shoe to fall. I have an endoscopy scheduled for March 14th for my GERD and then I guess I will get a surgery date from there. When I asked about costs I was told 10% copay for physicians and testing and $100 copay for hospitalization. Laura www.caringbridge.org/visit/cassidyconway

Yeah that is how my BCBS worked after they switched the requirements down to 6 months or if you have a BMI higher than 50 or 51 than there is no requirement of a supervised diet.

I'm feeling good, just getting exhausted very easily which is getting better every day....I have been trying to drink more water and I think that is helping.
