Swallowed Gum

As we were grocery shopping this morning, my husband  (RNY on December 28, 2006) frantically looks at me and says, "I just swallowed my gum!"  What should he do now?  Should he contact the surgeon or only if he feels ill?  Has anyone swallowed gum post operatively?

I am no doctor and have had a diffrent procedure but I swallow gum all the time and have had no problems. None the less to set yours and his mind at ease a call to the doc  won't hurt nor cost you anything.

Patt, thank you for your reply.  I'm hoping he's not going to make a habit of swallowing gum.

I swallowed gum three weeks after surgery...called surgeon right away and they said if I didn't get sick to not worry about. If I started vomiting and couldn't stop to call them. I had no nausea..so all went down o.k. hope things work out, colleen

Thank you so much Colleen.  I was hoping that was the case.  He says he feels fine and doesn't think it got stuck.

I'll tell him what you said.  The dumbest part was when I asked him how he swallowed it, he told me that it was because he didn't have anywhere to throw it .  Duh!

When it comes out it will almost be complete. But he can't continue chewing it. Tell him to start a new piece. kp
"Go sell crazy somewhere else; we're all stocked up here."

So, you've tried the re chewing part?  Good thing it wasn't bubble gum or he could blow bubbles in the other direction.
