OT: Scary google reverse phone number -- please read
edited 1102pm:
You realize, of course, that Google is not "divulging your private
info", they are displaying information that is freely and publicly
available in any phone book. I can plug your number into
www.whitepages.com and get your address as well. The BEST way to avoid
this is to tell the phone company to not publish your address
information in the phone book.
Please read: posted from PS board 2/11/08: ( I tried it and it worked...so I did the form to remove my name)

Forward this to everyone you know... Google has a new feature - you type in your phone number in the search bar, and it pulls up your name and address (if your number is published). If you then hit MapQuest, you will get a map to the person's house. Its a nationwide reverse phonebook. This can be a scary situation for many reasons. In oder to test if your number is mapped, go to google (http://www.google.com/) Type your number in the search bar (i.e.555-555-1212) and hit enter. If you want to BLOCK Google from divulging your private info, simply click on your telephone number and then click on the Removal Form. Removal takes 48 hours. This may not apply to you if you have an unlisted number or cell phone as primary contact, but you may know someone who needs to know this.
Yeah, if you are in the phone book, they're gonna figure out where you live! And really, just about anyone I give my phone number to already knows where I live. If someone knows your name, they are going to be able to find your number on whitepages.com. It's hard to hide these days!

There are so many sites out there like this. You may remove yourself from one but there are too many to list.

This really isn't new. It's been going around the internet for quite some time. I think I may have done the removal thing before, but my home number and info still comes up (but that's probably because I have a different landline than I did before). Oh well, if someone REALLY wants to find me, they will. My phone number and address are in the local phone book, so it's available on whitepages.com.
