Tummy Tuck - weirding out

Hi.  I'm having a tummy tuck on March 5th so I've been reading the plastic surgery forum and now I'm getting sort of scared.  My thing is pain control - - I just cannot seem to tolerate the oral narcotic pain relievers.    They all make me barf and  that is the absolute last thing I think I want to do after a TT.    I didn't take much of anything after my WLS but the pain from that was tolerable - - I think the TT is going to be a whole different animal.  I remember reading somewhere about a pain reliever that dissolves under the tongue - - has anyone out there tried anything like that?  If so, what was your experience? Thanks, Karen

I have the same problem with pain pills.  Ask them to give you something for nausea that you can take along with the pain pills.  I usually took one a half hour before my pain meds.  Take care, Fran

Hi Karen,

It's been awhile,  I don't have an answer to your question however I do wish you good luck and I'm sure the Dr. can recommend something for you.

I just wanted to wish you good luck and am very happy for you.  The final ending to a long long journey.

God Bless

Kathy A.

Karen Talk to your dr about having the pain pump inserted. I had that in for almost 4 days I think and it helped me alot. I think pain is different for every person. I did not feel alot of pain after my tummy tuck and he took off 5 pounds of skin off of me. Discuss with your surgeon your pain control options.  I am glad that you are having your tuck. Who is doing it? Suzanne

I will be having the pain pump but the doc said I would also need oral supplements to help control the pain - - the oral is what I'm afraid of.  I have a pretty high tolerance for pain, I didn't use many pain relievers at all after my WLS, but I know this will probably be different..... Karen

Hi Karen, Pain control was a big concern for me as well.  The oral pain meds upset my stomach.  I have a bad back so I was afraid that after TT and not being able to stand up straight for a couple of weeks would mess up my back.  The pain control system my surgeon used is called "OnQ", in which a tiny catheter delivers a constant dose of a non-narcotic pain medication into the abdomen.  The medication is held in a fanny pack type pouch, with a balloon-like container that collapses as it empties.  It lasts about 5 or 6 days and once it is empty, the tiny catheter can be easily removed.  You can do it yourself at home and toss the whole works into the trash.  I also used oral meds and Compazine to combat nausea. Good luck!

The surgeon will be using a "pain pump" - - I don't know if it is that particular one.  I'm glad to hear it worked well for you.  Thanks!

Karen, Did you ask about the OnQ pump?  I have heard great things about it.  I'm waiting for you to go through this first, so you can be the experienced one. Will we see you Wednesday night? Jeanne
