does any one know if your sleep apnea has to be sever or moderate to get approved?? according to my policy it has to be sever sleep apnea, but none of my co-morbs are sever but they are there and probably will get worse if I dont lose the weight.   Thanks for the help Rebeca

I was wondering the same thing.  I had 13 "obstructive apenic events" during my sleep study but was not diagnosed with sleep apnea (my sats never went below 88%).  It did say in the sleep study report "recommend weight loss" so I hope that helps!  My co-morbs aren't severe yet either.  I have hip knee and back pain that the surgeon is calling "arthritis" (I saw him write it down even though I didn't use that word).  He's also using urinary incont. (I pee when I sneeze/cough etc).

I believe it would be up to your ins. co. I have Priority Health and their Obesity policy states that for sleep apnea to qualify as a comorb it needs to be greater than or = to 10 AHI AHI stands for apnea hypopnea index and is referring to how many "episodes" you have in 1 hour. My AHI is 14 so I have bad enough sleep disordered breathing to use it as a comorb. Hope this helps,

Laura
