Barix Clinics "Free seminar" is NOT Free ! I was scammed..

 RECENTLY ATTENDED A "FREE NO OBLIGATION SEMINAR" AT BARIX CLINIC IN MICHIGAN.  I JUST RECEIVED A BILL FOR $314.00  THEY SAID ITS BECAUSE I MET WITH THE DOCTOR......THIS IS A JOKE HE SPENT 5 MINUTES WITH ME....AND ALL THEY DID WAS WEIGH ME AND TAK MY BP.

that's awful!  My seminar was totally free (New Beginnings Bariatric Center in Mt. Pleasant).  I only spoke with nurse and insurance biller, but I think even if I would have talked to the docs it would have still been free (it's advertised as free, no obligation also).   Are you still planning to continue with them or are you seeking care elsewhere now b/c of it??? I'm a hot headed chic, and that would have po'd me so bad I'd never go back!

That's weird. I had my consult last year and it was free (and I did meet with the doctor who became my surgeon). They didn't charge me on the day of the seminar, nor did i receive a bill afterwards...

Youch!!! I wouldn't pay it. But I think CORI/MSO has something to do with them now,,,,,,, I'm not sure though. It got real confusing for a while. kp

Dear Alan, Please Please don't let this make you not go there.  I have a few friends who went there, weren't charged and had the surgery.  I think that the invoice was a big mistake.  Have you called anyone from the clinic yet?  Seriously, don't let the billing department keep you from going to the best surgeon in the area, mine, Dr. Schram.  If you have more questions or need advice on how to handle the staff, PM me.  Don't write them off, ok? I did call them and cant get anything resolved.  I was never told about being billed.  They tricked me they asked for my insurance information, I assumed it was to check my coverage.  I have emailed the woman who made my appointment and have heard nothing back.  I honestly liked Dr. Schram but this was supposed to be FREE..

Instead of ranting on a board about this (although it does get you support) get on the phone and every day call barix and ask them what is going on?  also I would contact your insurance company and find out from them what charges they are being given. Get the statement this is "free" in writing and refuse to pay it and HIRE A LAWYER.  instead of just sitting here whining, be active in filing an upset with the hospital and remember, you are NOT the only patient this takes time- I would call the credit reporting agencies and tell them what's going on and also file a formal complaint with the hospital in WRITING. DO ALL OF THIS IN WRITING- phones and voice stuff won't necessarily stand up in court. The minute they asked for insurance I'd said WHY. the minute the want to check your coverage I'd say why? I haven't decided where I'm going. Sounds like to me you could have been pro-active in this as well instead of making barix sounding out to be the bad guy here. Dont just sit there complaining, get on your feet and do something to take care of it and keep on them until you get the matter resolved. SW

I still say don't pay'm. Tell them you want your blood pressure back and you won't charge them! There are plenty of doctors around who do free consults.  Check some more out in the meanwhile. kp
