MMPC
Next Monday I am attending the seminar at MMPC. I have my packet of information completed, picking up my medical records on Friday, Still have to type out my list of questions, and have my appointment calendar. So what am I forgetting? Also what can I expect at this seminar? How many people do they normally schedule? Will they tell me how much I should lose prior to surgery? Will they schedule needed testing if any at this appointment? Thanks for the helps and advise.
Hi!
Just went through it a couple of months ago. The seminar is sooo informative. Dr. Foote himself did mine. Liked him a lot. They describe each of the 4 surgeries and have everyone hold questions until the end. You will receive a paper with your estimated costs according to which type of insurance you have. I needed ins. auth. so I made no appts. that night. You will get a "time frame" sheet which walks you through the steps you need to take and you will fill out a survey.
That's pretty much it.
Any more questions, let me know, I've been a patient at their office for 3 years.
I agree. It was very informative. There were about 30 people there when I attended.
Bring your insurance card. They will take a copy of it and give you the paper with your estimated out of pocket. (It is dependant on the kind of insurance you have,) You can take notes on the papers they give you to take home, so you don't need a notepad.
At the one I went to, Dr Foote said you are expected to lose 5% of your weight before surgery. They will not schedule any testing there. They will call you after the seminar to set up your first appointment which will be with one of the internists. (at least that's the way it was done in April!)

You have to see MMPC's internist who will go over your general health and look at an EKG. In the end, the internist is the doctor who has the final say so for surgery.
You will not have to specify a surgery preference at the seminar. Part of the purpose of the seminar is to give you some options and fill you in on the pros and cons of each surgery. When you meet one on one with the surgeon, he will advise you of which surgery he feels is right for you.
Good luck to you!
Hi!
The seminar is very informing! Dr. Baker did mine and he's really nice. The room was quite full when I went in November there were proably about 40-45 people. The internist will tell you how much you should lose prior to surgery. I had Dr. Karen Gawel (sp?) and she told me 18 lbs and some of that can be included in the 2 week pre-op diet. Also during that appointment they determine what kind of testing you need. Good Luck!! Kristin
