February Get Together....

I have checked into "renting" ice time at our school rink.  WOW!  IT'S EXPENSIVE!  I didn't realize all the ins' and outs of ice time, but apparently the ice is contracted out and it depends on whether THEY have any for sale as far as when it can be "rented".  So, our best bet is to just go during an "open skate".  This particular rink does not offer rooms to rent for a party, unless you go through them and get your food from their concessions.  All they offer is hot dogs, pizza, chips, pop, etc.  So, as far as our school rink goes, I'd say we either do an open skate, which are Fridays 6-7:30, Saturdays 2-4:30 or Sundays 4:30-6:30.  The cost is $3.00 for admission and $2.00 for skate rental.  We could do a Friday night skate and then off to dinner or something.  If anyone else has any other suggestions, please let me know.  Also, because of some family obligations (health related) I won't be able to make it on Feb. 16.  OK...I think that's all!  LET ME KNOW WHAT EVERYONE THINKS!  Do we want to scrap the ice rink idea or just go somewhere else or just do an open skate with something else planned afterwards?  Tina

What about going downtown to Campus Martius and then heading out to a restaurant somewhere down there to eat afterwards? Plus we can go to casinos or something afterwards? I would prefer a Saturday since I work on Saturday mornings. Suzanne

I thought about Campus Martius, but just am not that familiar with it.  ALL sounds good to me!  Saturday evenings would be better for me, as well.  Tina

Casino and dinner sound fun to me.  No way am I hanging around at Campus Martius, I would get cold and then NEVER be able to warm up!  But I could meet you guys after.  Maybe check the casino bars to see if there is someone good there in February. We had a good time in Greektown months ago.... Tina, how close is the rink to Detroit?  Is there a way we could skate/eat & drink/ then casino?

The rink is near the corner of Middlebelt and Sibley, about 2 miles south of the airport.  It's at our high school.  We could skate with families and then later meet up for dinner  and casino.  I'm leaving for TN in the AM.  Will be gone until next week......long story.  BUT this means I may be around on February 16th afterall.  We'll just have to see!

I think Campus Martus and dinner afterwards sound great.  I'd prefer Saturday or Sunday.  I don't know about the skating though. I haven't been on my skates in many, many years.  But it is like riding a bike isn't it?  Jeanne

I vote for Campus Martius and the Casino!  Or how about meeting at the spa at MGM and then going on to the casino!  We could work out or just sit in the whirlpool and steam room if you aren't into working out.  I SO SO SO want to check out the new MGM and my DH doesn't want to go.  Count me in whatever you do.  Check out the MGM web site.  You can download the spa information.  If you aren't staying at the casino, it costs $50 to use the gym and the spa without the extra services like massages, facials, etc.
