ok so i havent been here for awhile, and its cuz i got a little depressed about the fact that i might have had to start all the processes over... i talked to my insurance rep at MMPC and she told me that with my BMI (being at 85.2) that BCBS does not require me to have pre-authorization....(OMG!!!!!!!)  i started crying instantly and i believe i remember telling her that i love her...about 15 times lol so now i have to get my labs done and my pelvic/PAP updated and then i can schedule surgery!!!  YAY!!!!!!!!  im still getting choked up a little here....and i made my mom cry...hahaa  (my goal is to have it before my bday March 17.)

Congratulations! I called MMPC last week to see if BCBS has changed their requirements and I was told they are still trying to get the information from BCBS, so after I saw your post I called and left a message with them to get back with me so I can get this going also.  I called BCBS yesterday and the lady I talked to wasn't very helpful, I thought at first she was nice until she started to tell me that  it hasn't changed and that 6 months of a physcian supervised diet isn't long enough to know that the diet isn't working.  So I am hoping I find out tomorrow that I can schedule a date for my surgery finally.

Call back.  The information was just distrubed to the customer service representatives today.  It is 6 months.  If your BMI is over 50 and you have co-morbid conditions, the 6 months is waived.

Just tried called and they are in an informational training session until 10:30.  Will be calling back after that.  Why dont they train their people prior to any changes taking effect.  I have already called them three times this years about this change and keep being told the same thing " 12 months of supervised dieting"  If I wasn't such a pushie person I would have taken their word for it the first time I called on 1-2-08.

Don't take their word for it keep pushing! The changes are real. I had endoscopy this morning, my last pre op test before surgery on 1/28 and I am a BC/BS community blue customer! I am so excited that all of us BCBS "waiters" get our chance! Good Luc****ke

I called around 11 this morning and was told still 12 months.  Now this is BC/BS of Michigan PPO.   I also went to their local office here in Lansing and was told the same thing.  When I got home I called MMPC in Grand Rapids to make appt for seminar.  Scheduled for the 28th.  Since I only have 2 more months to go to meet my 12 month supervised diet requirement I guess this will give me two months to do all the testing and stuff.  I think would be appropriate to have surgery on april fools day.  Some day soon I will be on the losers bench.

I called MMPC around 11:15 today and was told that BCBS has changed to 6 months supervised diet or if you have a BMI over 51 (I think that is the amount) you don't need any of the months.
