My DH just informed me that our insurance is changing on January 1st to BC/BS and now I am worried they won't cover the WLS. Since there isn'a an official policy yet I don't have anyone to call so I wondered if anyone out there has/had BC/BS and did it cover surgery?

Thanks, OH.com is great, thansk to MicBrook for mentioning it at the support group!

It depends on the policy his employer purchases. Anthem- like any insurance company has many different policies with different copays, deductibles and co-insurance amounts.
I work for the State of Maine, have Anthem and  my WLS was covered.

I have BC/BS and it covered it.  I had to meet the criteria, BMI over 40 PLUS I had2 or 3 co-morbidities so no problem.

It was magic when she realized who she had become...

I have excellus BCBS cuz the company I work for is based out of New York. Same as Anthem I guess thats what all the hospitals and stuff call it. Anyway I have no medical co-morbidities except joint pain and I had developed a bit of urinary stress incontinence after I gained my last 10 lbs  but that wasnt documented to the insurance company. Anyway I got approved without ANY problems at all on the first letter. I was 28 at the time and 5'5 and weighed 307 when I started the liquid preop diet. My intitial consult weight was like 280 or something before I quit smoking so thats the weight they submitted.

I know they will NOT cover lapband though, well mine wont they say its still investigational.
