I have only had the foamies a handful of times since wls - and it didn't last very long. Well let me tell you today - I REALLY know what people are talking about - pain like I hadn't experienced before.....3 times running to the rest room.....and this lasted about two hours....all while I was on the phone at work.

I don't wish that on anyone. Sheesh.....that one bite too many.....

What are "foamies"  caused by when you eat too much?  I'm assuming like stomach acid coming up??

I think so - I'm assuming it's because the pouch is so small that if you eat too much it stays in the esphogus - and being a foreign body - mucus forms around it to protect your body....that's my theory anyway - haven't had it confirmed by my doc since it hadn't really been an issue before.

i searched  foamies on this  site and found this but there are also good   other  explanations of it

i  keep  papaya  enzyme here to   but that is  a personal preference  i have never had to use it i usually  just walk and the stuck  moves.

Our pouches no longer are capable of producing hydrochloric acid.  The body is a fantastic self-preserver giving half a chance.  When we get into problems overfilling our pouches by eating too fast or taking bites that are too small, the body begins to produce large quantities of mucus to help things along.  You will probably read on OH about people getting runny noses when they are getting full.  I believe this is that moment before going into full blown foamies.  The best treatment is prevention, but I have also found taking papaya enzyme (over the counter, cheap, chewable) keeps the foamies away by causing the food in the pouch to begin breaking down.  Personally, I carry it with me all the time.

That's interesting  - thanks - I get the runny nose thing all the time.....I can clearly see after today's episode I need to be more mindful of portion control (no doubt I'm getting more casual about that as I get further out).....and pick up some papaya enenzyme at Rite Aid!!!
