hello again everyone!
My first appt is FINALLY coming up . It is at the end of October (yay) and wanted to know if I should go the the meeting (next week??) I am going to see Dr. Loggins and the support group is the first tuesday of the month right? Well... should I go to that or should I just wait until my appt and go to the one in November. I am really excited to get the ball rolling. About how long will it take from my first appt until surgery...assuming everything goes smoothly and i get approved and all that. I feel like the time frame is so up in the air and I just want a better grasp on it :) So thanks to anyone for answering my questions. I have been lurking but not really around but I am sure as my appt approaches and I get along in the process I will be around more. :D

Hello again, this is really weird, I think I told you my dgt's name is Samantha G.  Is that you SAM???   anyway,  as for how long it will take, it all depends on if the dietitian approves you, insurance and your health.  THey will give you a 10% goal to loose, but if you show your are working hard and doign everything they tell you do do, you might get approved anyway.  it took me about 4 months to (Dec 6 to April 21).  also, yes, if you go to support groups you sign in and it will look good in your file, so show them you are interested.  Good luck,  Cheryl

I saw Dr. L the first of October and had surgery February 18th. I was very pro-active about getting all my appointments done as well as doing what the nut wanted. There has only been one person she's let go thru the process with only one appointment. She usually requires at least two. I also only lost 10 pounds out of the 23 they wanted me to lose. The biggest reason is to shrink your liver as it lays on top of the stomach. The smaller it is the easier for them to do surgery. Also you must be a non-smoker for 3 months before surgery and he will do a blood test to prove it. You are going to love him. He's wonderful!

It's hard to give you a time frame as it depends on how much other testing you have to have done.  It took me just under 4 months from the time of my first consult to surgery date.  I think his waiting list is a little bit longer now though.

In my opinion, the support groups are usually great and both the pre-op and post-op meetings have patients that are pre and post-op. Corinne usually leaves some time for people to mingle and ask questions.  I started going as soon as I knew about them and I haven't stopped.  I find them helpful (99% of the time...haha!)  Come and meet us!!!!

Good luck with your appt!  Keep us posted!

Thank you everyone. Hopefully I can make it to the meeting but it all depends on when hubby gets home. I am so excited to get everything going :) I don't smoke so he can test me all he wants :) Thanks again.

I know when I had my surgery it took  4 months from my initial consult til surgery. Dr Loggins has since become much busier. I would say 6 months but that depends on how quickly you are able to get all your testing in. :-) It is good to have you here. Feel free to ask any questions you may have

Hi Sam...I think a lot depends on your surgeon...they all seem to do things a bit differently...BUT...my initial consultation and first support group meeting were on June 6th...all my pre-approval app'ts. are done and my surgery is scheduled for Nov. 4th !!
So "guesstamation" would be 4 - 6 months...??

The Best of Luck to you !!
