My surgery is tomorrow (YIPPEE) my Dr told me I would be on the pureed diet for 2 weeks. Does anyone have any suggestions of foods I can have? Thanks in advance.

When I was released from the hospital all I could have was water, protein shake (diluted) and popsicles.  The only food I was allowed to have was eggs, cottage cheese and yogurt.  I couldn't have this until AFTER my first week check-up.  I had this until my one month check-up and then my doctor added melon, fish and veggies.  I tried melon but they are not ripe.  I don't like fish so that doesn't help me.  The only thing I have really added to my diet since the cottage cheese, eggs and yogurt is cream of wheat, string cheese and salad.

I have noticed while reading different posts that doctor allow you to have different things!

Hi Rhonda!

I found a little listing of suggestions in the paperwork from Arlene Swantko - and am off to the store today to buy things that she recommends:

Thinned instant mashed potatoes
Thinned oatmeal or cream of wheat
cream soups (anything with chunks has to be pureed)
Canned tuna (chunk light only)/chicken with lots of mayo
chicken and stars** soup (only soup with a noodle that doesn't have to be pureed - cause the stars are soo tiny!)
Dannon light and fit yogurt (but no frozen yogurt!)
scrambled eggs made very fluffy with milk.

From watching my sis go through this - she really only ate a bite or two of something at a time - so, the major thing I'm getting is the tiny little ziploc containers so that hubby can portion things out when he opens a can of soup for me.  Sis would get egg drop soup from the local chinese place - and eat it (the small one) over 4 days!!  She threw that away because she got tired of eating it - not because she ever finished it.
