Was trying to do some budgeting for feb, and my surgery is march 10.  I was wondering how payment works at the hospital, do they bill you for everything, or do you pay before you go?  Have never really been in the hospital before, but i know when i had a few other test done for my surgery, they dont seem to take payment there.  Anybody know the deal?

Hey Jen,
I'm not sure what you're talking about with regards to the payment.  Are you a self pay patient or are you talking about your deductable?  Does your insurance only cover a certain amount and you're on a payment plan for the rest?  My guess, without knowing your specific case, would be that you should contact directly whomever it is that you owe the money to and ask them.  Good luck.

no dont owe anybody yet, im talking about co-payment after surgery, ya know when your leaving the hospital, to you pay then or does the hospital bill you, that kind of thing.  I have insurance that is paying for my surgery, so i have deductibles that i will owe my surgeon and hospital.

Jenn, if u have insurance that pays the majority of the hospital bill, most likely they will bill u after u leave. I don't know what hospital u are going 2 but,  usually u will get a separate bill from your  Dr, and anyone or anything else that was not included in the hospital fee. I have never heard of anyone having 2 pay before surgery as long as u have good insurance. Also, if u have trouble getting all your money together, I would pay the Dr. and the hospital will work with you on a monthly  payment plan. As long as you make payments their happy. Good Luck and stop worrying, it will all work out!   Leslie :)

Hey jen!

normally if you have insurance they will send the bill to your insurance company and the insurance will pay their part then the hospital will send you the bill for the unpaid portion that the insurance won't pay for (like if there's a 90/10 split or whatever) but it will all go to insurance first :)  I hope that helps ya!

My hospital called and verified my benefits and found my deductible hasn't been met and I have to take $150.00 for that. That's all so far!

Good luck!

I am sure most every hospital bills your insurance first and if they have a problem with your insurance then they will send you a bill in the mail. You should not have to pay a penny at the hospital. ;o)

Jen,

I didn't have a deductible to pay for the surgery, it was covered 100% by insurance.  However, every bill that I've gotten from Dr. S and related doctors (psych and nut), have gone through insurance first and then they bill you your portion.

Hope that helps,
Heather
