Is the grass truly greener on the other side?

Do you ever feel that you're always getting the short end of the stick? Or do you constantly compare your life to others' lives? We are bombarded with daily images of the posh lifestyles of celebrities. Their expensive wardrobes and status can entice even the happiest person to drool over such luxury. But by thinking about the world as a whole, you'll find that your own life is wealthy beyond compare. Make a short list of some of your overlooked privileges. Owning a car (or two!), having access to television, computers, drinkable water, a respectable wage at your job, and all of the freedoms you enjoy that are a foreign idea to many people around the world. Be grateful for your life and over time maybe you will see that your plot in life is someone else's "greener grass."

I am who I am and accept my feelings wholeheartedly.

Hi Cira,

My mother is constantly comparing her life to other's and always feels like she's getting the short end of the stic.  I strive to be the opposite of her in every way.
Of course, most people are going to look at the lives of celebrities and think that they've got is so good.  I know that if I made the money they did, I wouldn't have the bills that I do but I do realize that I'm quite privledged in comparison to many others.  This year I'm going to try and concentrate on paring my life down somewhat and try to get rid of some bills (my motorcycle that I don't ride) that don't make sense.

Anyone want to buy a 2006 Harley Davidson FXDBI (Street Bob) that only as about 1600 miles on it?  Someday I'd like a trike but right now I just don't need another vehicle payment!

Thanks for this...I think we need this reminder when we start feeling like our lives suck!!

Heather

AMEN!!!!  My brother's the quintessential "glass half empty" guy, and it makes me crazy.  He's always saying, "It can't get any worse!"  Oh, yes, it can....and HAS!!!

Even though someone's grass might be greener, it COULD be because they have more crap fertilizing it!!!!

Hey Cira,

One thing I've often found myself doing and have passed on to my children is to realize that no matter how bad you have it, there is always someone out there that makes you look like your life is perfect.  Seeing somone in a wheelchair with both legs amputated usually does it for me.  The self pity party tends to come to a screaching halt rather quickly.

I wish I could know where you're coming from about owning a car or two and about earning a respectable wage at my job.  My license is suspended until June, 2010 and I've been unemployed for 7 months.  Oh well, I still have my health and my children.  Did I really say June of 2010?  Ouch!!!

"No matter how hard life may get, no matter how many curveballs you are thrown, keep in mind, if you want to succeed - QUITTING IS NOT AN OPTION"!!!

These are daily healthy reflections posts that I get from sparkpeople.com.  I post these messages when I think maybe someone can benefit from it.

Sorry about your DL and I hope you find a job soon.  Plenty of people gripe for the smallest things and so when things might look awful for someone there is someone else going through worse.

Wishing you all the best.

I am who I am and accept my feelings wholeheartedly.
