PJs OK?

My surgery is Monday AM - and I'm packing my bag to go....

I have gowns from when I was in the hospital with my C-section, but, remember even then thinking I would have been so much more comfortable if I could have worn some shorts or flowy PJs.

Do you know if they will allow me to wear that in the hospital - or would I be required to wear a gown.  I can always just pack one of each - and leave the 2nd one in a bag for the hubby to bring next day.  I just really really hate the whole braless - nightgown and robe thing.  Especially since people want to come visit me in the hospital (not that I'm not grateful that they are concerned about me - just - I'd rather they wait to see me when I get home).

Thanks,
Melodie

PS...thank you Cira for the reminders in another post - I added some of those things to the list of things that need to go in my bag! ....some are already safely tucked in there!

I guess you can wear PJ bottoms but remember, you will have an IV and possibly a drain. So the hospital gowns are easier to get on and off with the snap sleeves. When you are up and walking, PJ bottoms may give you more coverage. At the same time, you can use another hosital gown on backwards like a robe and achieve the same thing.

Wishing you all the best!

Melodie,

Congratulations on your upcoming surgery!
I am glad that I was able to help with the list.  I didn't add gown for the hospital although I took one I never got to use it.  When you come out of surgery you will have an IV. So will need the hospital gown it is easier to remove and change.  When you go walking all you need is another hospital gown or bath robe to cover your back. You can only slide one are into a sleeve and the other side just over your shoulder.  I had a drain so I prefered the lose hospital gown. They will be checking your drain and incisions too. The day when I was going to be discharged I tried to put on a bra but that was shortly lived because the pressure where the front of the bra between the breast was just too much for me.  I had a small incision right under that. So braless I went home! lol  Just remember to have comfy pants draw string or elastic waist so you can be comfy on your way home.  So you can take one and maybe you can give it a try on day 2 and see how it goes.  :-)

I hope this helps.
Do you have an angel that will check on you and post an update when you come out of surgery? If not let me know if you would like me to be your angel I will be more than happy to.

Soon you will be on the Loser's bench Woooo hooooo!

Thanks again guys....

I think I'll attempt a pair of very loose velour maternity pants. I really hate just being in a gown....  but, at least if I have those to slip on before a walk, it will make things more bearable (even with the goww/robe combo I feel too exposed).

Denise - are you going to be at St. Agnes?

Thank you for the "angel" offers - I'll get my hubby to post how things are going for me to the board.  Or, ErinBear (I think that was her user name) - she's my Sister, and went through this almost 2 years ago!  I'm still bugging her to post her pre and post pics.  We went shopping together yesterday for bridesmaid dresses (I told the bride I was just there to help pick colors - no way can I order a dress before surgery!!)  Anyway - sis is down to a size 6!!!  Amazing!!!

Mel.

Congrats on your surgery!!  To tell you the truth, I felt so yucky that I didn't mind being in a gown the whole time I was in the hospital.  They'll give you a second gown to wear backwards like a robe for when you are up and about.

Wishing you an uneventful surgery and a speedy recovery!

Awww Congrads and GOOD LUCK MEL!!!!! ;o)
I took so much that I NEVER NEEDED like PJS and a robe and even slippers.
I never needed any of that because I stayed in their gowns and used the slipper socks they gave me. Its only one day if all goes well and it goes by fast because your getting test done the next day or atleast I know I did. The swallow study or whatever. (Fluroscopy)
I took magazines and never needed them either. LOL You will want a nice soft pillow to hold on your tummy for the ride home. I put mine against my tummy and put the seatbelt over it. Also you will need a pill crusher for all your pills. They have cheap 4-6 dollar ones at Wal*Mart. I have an SUV so when hubby came to get me he brought the step stool  for me to get in the truck w/o tearing myself apart. LOL And I was GLAD I took chapstick because your lips will be SOOOO
DRY! LOL
GOOD LUCK HONEY!!

Oh no Jill!!  I was "hoping" for reading time!!

The only book I am taking with me is my textbook!  I'm working on a Master's degree, and this semester's class is "Economic Financial Analysis".  Just the title of the class bores me!!!  I was hoping that maybe I'd have absolutely nothing else to do - and be forced to do my reading for the week....  I know the pain meds will probably knock out the memory of reading - but - since I'm not really retaining this super dry material, at least I'd know I actually did the reading....

Awwwwwwwwwwww LOL Well you will have PLENTY of time for that when you first go home. LOL I LOVED my couch when I first went home. As a matter of fact I had to sleep on my lovseat for the first 10 days post op because I could not lay flat in my bed it was AWFUL! LOL But in the hospital it took me forever to kick the sedation out of my system. I was trying to fall asleep whenever they were not probing me! LOL
