Hi...I just got my surgery date!!!!  Yeah I am so excited!!! But when I asked about my pre-op liquid diet they said I didn't have one. That the Dr didn't specifiy one so I can eat reguloar until then....sounds too good to be true...anyone else had this before? I go to to pre-op group meeting on Monday so I will double check then. I am supposed to be going to Deep Creek that weekend with 11 friends and if I have to do a liquid diet the whole time I am going to not go on the trip...don't want to have to explain to everyone why I am not eating, only a few of them know.

2/17/09 here I come!!!!!

I didn't have to do a liquid diet either. I just had to do a low-carb, low fat, high protein diet prior to surgery and I had to drink 1 1/2 oz of fleet phosphosoda the day before surgery.

Every doctor has different guidlines.  They usually change their guidelines after a while too.  I had the day beofre surgery a liquid diet and the fleet phospho drink.  But Lashay had her surgery with the same doc and the guidelines has been changed.

Lucky you enjoy and congrats on your surgery date.

I had a different doc too and didn't have any special pre-op instructions with respect to diet.  I was able to eat normally up to and including the day before surgery, just had to stop all food and liquids by 10ish pm.  Like Cira said, all docs are different!

Congrats on getting your date!!!

THanks for the input, this is all good to hear. I much rather do something like that then 2 weeks of liquids! I guess I will find out  more on Monday!!

Dr. Singh is my surgeon, but him and Dr. A follow exact same protocol. If they told you no liquid diet, then you can eat regularly up until the day before surgery. At the pre-op class, Cathy will tell you to eat light the day before and nothing to eat after 8pm.

Dr. Singh explained to me that the reason some patients have to do the liquid diet is if they have higher BMI's or carry more belly weight, they may have a fatty liver, so it just helps shrink the liver down to make surgery a little easier.

That is so good to hear Brandi. It looks like you just had your surgery...how did it go?

When Dr. Singh got in there, he found another problem, so he wasn't able to do the bypass, but he did fix the problem. So, I've got to wait another 2-3 months before I can have my WLS. But, I haven't had any problems, pain has been manageable, and the staff at St. Agnes was great.

I am sorry to hear that you weren't able to get the RNY but I am glad that the problem was fixed and you are ok!! And in the long run 2-3 months compared to a lifetime is not that bad!!
