Heather - thank you for mentioning open season and Aetna.  I saw that others have used Aetna, but I wasn't certain if it is the same Aetna that we have available.  I need to pull out my insurance paperwork and review it.  I've had Blue Cross for several years, and quite frankly it's gotten to the point that they pay less and less.  Of course, it's probably the same way with the others.  I've never had Aetna, but did have GEHA years ago.  I have to say that BCBS beats GEHA hands down.  But I will definitely check Aetna and see how it compares.

Can you tell me more about the pre-tax savings account.  I've been retired for about 5 years, and quite frankly am not familiar with this.  I think this is for anyone, not just Gov employees - right?  That's also a good idea.

Thanks for your help!

Gwen

Gwen,

Not sure as a retiree you are eligible for the pre-tax savings account. Check out https://www.fsafeds.com/fsafeds/index.asp for more information. I only worry you wouldn't be eligible because the money is withheld from a paycheck. If you can't do a pre-tax savings account you can, in some cases, deduct medical expenses from your taxes. These accounts are a benefit that has to be offered from a company.

Good luck with considering a new insurance provider and getting surgery approved! It is so worth it!!!!

I have both Blue Cross and Aetna.  In July he began accepting Blue Cross.  They paid for my consult with him, even though Bariatric Surgery is not a covered benefit in my plan.

Hope this helps you.
