Hey Girl!    I had Dr. K too.  Did he tell you that you had to be on liquid diet?  He didn't tell me that, but I kind of self-imposed, getting ready for the "head game."  I don't know how hard it would have been around Thanksgiving, but I know that I have worked hard to get to the point where I was approved for surgery and NOTHING was going to stop me.  Yes, I did have my moments where I got really scared and worried was I doing the right thing and almost chickened out, but hang in there and you WILL get through this!!!!   I'll be 6 months out next week and I'm down almost 100 lbs (proud to say) and NO, it hasn't always been easy, in fact, sometimes downright hard, but I know it has saved my life and it has given me the opportunity to see things in a different light.  I am nowhere near thin, but my health has definately improved dramatically!!!  You are in good hands with Dr. K, he is a wonderful surgeon and although he seems stearn, he really does care about his patients.
If you have any questions, send me a PM.  I'm rooting for you!!

YOU DESERVE THIS!!

He didnt make you go on a liquid diet? That is music to my ears!!!! Maybe he wont do that to me either then. I just assumed he would because he mentioned it at the seminar. Maybe that was for people who needed the 6 mos before surgery? Go**** would be nice to NOT be on liquids for Thanksgiving.

You have lost almost 100 in six months???? HOLY CHIT GIRLIE!!!!!!!!! That is AMAZING!!!!! KUDOS TO YOU!!!! ((((((Hugs))))))))))))
When you get a chance PM me on [email protected] so I can ask you more about Dr K. Thanks ~Jilly~

Hi Jilly,
I would think that since you will still be preop during Thanksgiving that you could still do more than a week of the liquid diet prior to your surgery.  I wonder if you asked the surgeon or nutritionist about whether this would suffice in preparing your body for the surgery.  I know some surgeons prefer the intestines to be cleansed and free of solids before surgery and some do not.  Some like to use a liquid diet to shrink the liver if it is enlarged.  If your liver is not enlarged, then maybe the 10 days would be OK with the surgeon.  If not, then by the time Christmas and New Years roll around you at least will be able to eat foods then, fully chewed and in smaller portions, because by then I think you would be on pureed or soft foods.  You wrote that you would be on liquid diet again at Christmas.  I'm confused because I thought that each week you change from clear liquids to full liquids, to pureed and then soft foods, then regular food chewed thoroughly.

I worried that I would die in surgery too.  I had to remind myself that i would die from obesity related complications and that was why I was having WLS, to live.  I did do the advanced directive and life insurance update before surgery.  I think this is completely normal to think about the what ifs.  Just try to trust your surgeon to take good care of you.  he has done many many of these surgeries and is very skilled.

Hi Jennifer ;o) I feel like I have not talked to you in forever. How are you honey?? How have you been feeling?
I think I was told 6 weeks of liquid/soft diet. I am going to ask more when I go Tuesday for my Pre Op and bloodwork. I would LOVE to be able to have atleast a small sample of Thanksgiving dinner.
I do trust Dr K very much so and did my homework before I found him. I have ever bit of confidence in him its just me being a worry wart. I have a phobia of something happening to me and my kids not having their Mom. I hope these feelings can shake soon. ;o) ~Jilly~

Hi Jilly,
I'm feeling good.  Thanks for asking!  My energy is much improved, and my arthritis meds are not needed anymore, for the time being anyway, keeping my fingers crossed.  Every day tasks like grocery shopping, getting in and out of the car,  and showering and vacuuming and standing at the kitchen counter are all much less painful and easier now with some weight off of me.  I will always have the spine degeneration issues but the pressure on my spine being lessened is helping a great deal.  I sleep better too, and wake up much earlier than I used to on the weekends.
I hope you feel just as great after your surgery.

Hi Jilly,

I'll be able to eat for Thanksgiving and Christmas, albeit in very small amounts and no sugar, etc.  But I was on pureed foods for my 40th b'day.  One of my very favorite things in the world used to be birthday cake and I mourned not being able to have that this year.  I ended up having Cream of Crab soup and it was divine!  I know it will not be easy but just keep telling yourself that it is the very best thing for you.

Like you, I was also afraid of dying.  I did my advanced directive and even typed up an unofficial living will.  I tried to think positively and it was the best feeling ever being woken up in the recovery room!

You'll be great!!!

Thanks Heather. Yum on the crab soup! That sounds so good on a day like today! hehehe I am trying to talk myself up but then I get so emotional. My six year old son had surgery in 2002 and when he was discharged I was soooooooooo relieved because I was STRESSING SO BAD as any Mom would. I thought the hardest part was over then we brought him home only to have him pass away a few days later. I was devastated and since then I have been twice as much of a worry wart. I just will be so very happy to have this behind me and move onto a healthier me. Thanks for the words of encouragment honey. (((Hugs))) ~Jilly~

{{{Jilly}}} I'm so sorry to hear about your son.

I hear ya on the worry wart thing, I'm right there with ya.  Once you get through your surgery, as long as you stick to your surgeons instructions and get all your vits, fluids, protein, follow-up appointments, exercise, etc, you will be doing all that you can do for yourself.

Hang in there!!
