Has anyone here had their surgery around the holidays? How was it? I know for me it will be more mental than anything but I will not be able to have ANYTHING on Thanksgiving. I will be on my LIQUID DIET during Thanksgiving. Then I will be on liquids again around Christmas time. I just hope I can mentally do this.

I have been waiting and waiting for my Doctor to say okay now you can have your surgery....he finally says it and I am wishing he didnt? Is that normal? I want this and I know it will change my life but I keep having dreams that I die in surgery and my kids are left w/o a Mom and my husband is devastated. I keep having that same dream. I hope that is just jitters. But with it being less then 3 weeks from my surgery I am getting cold feet. I am thinking this liquid diet on the holidays will be torture. If anyone has went through this and can share with me what to expect I will soooooooo appreciate it. Thanks everyone. ((((((Hugs))))))))))) ~Jilly~

so sorry you are feeling that way. i didn't have to do the liquid diet b4 so i can't help you there but the reward you will have will be weight loss, not food, during this holiday season. that will be the best gift you can give yourself. for me, i had the surgery scheduled and didn't think too much about it. Not sure if that was good but that is how it was. Next christmas you will be 100 lbs lighter and enjoying some of the foods you won't this season. Hope you feel better bout it. good luck!

Jilly,

I am sorry I didn't have to have surgery duruing the Holidays.  But I know others that have will chime in for you.  I just want to let you know that feeling nervous and scared is totally normal.  I wrote letters to each of my children and husband just incase.... I got rid of them as soon as I got back home!!!  here I am 20 months later praising God that I never backed out because this was the best thing I could have ever done for me and my family.

One thing that I do know is that the next Thanksgiving and Christmas you will be able to enjoy a wonderful dinner just at a smaller portion and not to mention you will be healthier and feeling and looking great!

We are here for you.
Hugs,

I am who I am and accept my feelings wholeheartedly.

Thanks Cira that makes me feel better. ;o) I wrote letters to Mike and the girls too. Just writing those was so very hard on me. I was petrified every time I had to have a C section so you can imagine this is ten times as scary for me. I just want to be okay and change my life for the better. I pray God gives me that chance. Thanks Nic!! ;o) I didnt know the liquid diet was an option I thought you absoultly had to have it. I will have to call my surgeon. Hearing I may be 100 pounds lighter next year brought a smile to my face for sure. (((Hugs))) ~Jilly~

I had my surgery on 12/5 last year. I wasn't on a liquid diet before, so it didn't impact my Thanksgiving. I had soup for Christmas dinner, and it didn't bother me at all. We were at a restaurant, and my dad and step-mother ate, drank and were merry. I just had the merry part, lol.

Could you have an early Thanksgiving dinner? Then, at least you would have your feast once this year. By next year you'll be able to eat most of the same foods for Thanksgiving as everyone else, just more sensibly and in much smaller quantities than you are used to.

As far as fear about your surgery, I believe that is completely normal. You need to concentrate on all the positives that will be happening. I don't know how to retrain your mind to turn your dreams around. I wish I had the magic cure for that!

You have to do what you feel is best for yourself, and of course for your family. If postponing your surgery until after the holidays would work better, than I'm sure your surgeon could do that. But, you have to live with your decision. If you can then get through the holidays without feeling guilty of your decision...
Hugs!

Thanks Kathy ;o) I am not able to reschedule because my surgeon is the ONLY one at Univ that does the RNY surgery. He is soooo super booked up! So I had to take what I could get. I wanted to have it teh Fri before Christmas because I woudl be off 15 days after that. But it didnt work out that way. Mike, my husband, will be taking some time off the Coast Guard for family leave. THANK GOD! ;o)

((((((Jilly))))))

All these emotions are normal right before surgery. I had mine in July and didnt have to do a liquid diet so I can not help you in that dept. But I did have cold feet even up to the moment of them rolling me in th Operating Room

This is your time and the dreams are just dreams. Your doing this for your family and to be with your hubby and kids LONGER.

Were all here for you.
