Hello. I met with Dr. Schweitzer the other day and although we discussed most facets of the surgery, he wanted to defer the post op diet information to the nutritionist that I have not yet met. I was wondering what his particular regimen consists of as far as how long clear liquid, full liquid, puree, soft foods, etc.

Thanks for any clarity you can offer.

Hi Denise!!

As you can see, I'm NOT a Schweitzer patient, but I'm sure someone will be able to help you out.

Just wanted to say, "Welcome to the Maryland Board!"

Good luck on your journey!!

Denise, I'm a Schweitzer patient.. EXCELLENT choice!  When you see the NUT they will give you information on the post op instructions and you'll also get a packet from the NP.  If you want to see it now, just go to Schweitzer's site: http://www.smallscar.com/obesity/diet.html and download that packet for your surgery.  I had banding so mine was different than yours will be!  Good luck!

Revised to VSG (6/11/09) weighing 253...

Denise,

Just had my RNY with Dr. Schweitzer on 10/7.  The diet is clear liquids in the hospital.  Full liquids for one week after returning home.  Pureed for 3 weeks, then 2-4 weeks of soft foods.

Hi, the post-op diets are also posted on Bayview's website, http://www.hopkinsbayview.org/bariatrics/documents.html. And the nutritionist will go over everything when you meet with them. I hope this helps.

I am a Dr. S. person.  I have since changed doctors.  He is a great at surgery  but I feel that the aftercare sucks (Pat Gordon)   Really very crazy.  I am now going  to Dr. Halmi in Falls Church.  He really discusses diet or aftercare.  I was very discouraged.  Sorry.  If you are researching doctors, Dr. S's name comes up alot and he really knows his stuff as far as surgery but not after care.  Diane

I agree with Diane about Dr. Schweitzer, he is a great Surgeon but has a lousy staff. No aftercare to speak of. My post surgery visit with the nut was not very informative and they really were just going thru the motions. Physc(sp?) was the same.

Please make sure you stay on the office staff and check on your case regularly, because they will not.  The follow thru leaves much to be desired.

Good Luck, we will save a place for you on the loser bench!

Hi, I didn't have Dr. Schweitzer, but I am also a Hopkins person and Dr. Steele did my surgery.  I see Margaret Furtado as my nutritionist and she is WONDERFUL !  Incredibly knowlegable, kind and caring. If you have a choice, I recommend you see Margaret.  You can meet her at the support groups too. She is usually at the 3rd Thursday meeting.
