vitamins?

Hey,
I went to my preop assessment today at the Vic. Everything went well.
Just had a question about vitamins. In the handout, it says that you have to stop all vitamins 7 days before surgery...but I'm barely taking in 700 calories a day on this diet...my vitamins are my life line!!
Are they serious? Did you all stop your vitamins a week before surgery? You would think for bariatric surgery, they would let us consume all the vitamins/minerals that we need.
Thanks,
Kaos

When I went for my pre-op I asked them if I should stop them and was told not to. Both the anethesiologist and nurse had told me this. I was only told to not take my blood pressure meds the morning of surgery.

Remember that most medications and vitamins are metabolized by the liver and the liver is responsible for blood clotting factors, so some of the vits may interfer with that process.  Safer not to take them, you can always play catch up post operatively.

I stopped 2 weeks before as well.  Thought it was odd, but I did it.
My energy level sure went down.
But now I am back at being able to take as many vitamins as I want.

I have to do it throughout the day as my stomach can't handle them all at once.
I take the Usana AM/PM packs.
