Im a litl over a week out and the incision near my port is still a little sore and itchy. I saw my surgeon yesterday and he was proud of my progress and said everythig was fine, now i think what im feeling is my port?? Is that normal even before drastic weight loss? Im very worried!!

I am a year out and if I exercise alot my prot area gets very tender. It is just because of the muscle that it is stitched to. Some days it is tender just from regular movement ,laundry etc.
But tender is not the same as painful, red or irritated.

Actually, itchy is good -- it means that you are healing.

You should be sore at this stage -- you had someone take a knife and cut open your body, silly girl!   The port incision will continue to be tender for quite a while.

As long as it is not 'hot' to the touch or red and really inflamed, you should be fine.

Your body is working to form scar tissue around your band and your port -- to help hold them in place --- so, be gentle with yourself -- no heavy lifting or stretching.

Try to find something to take your mind off of feeling every little twitch/twinge in your body --- I remember that stage -- and I worried about everything.
If you saw your doc yesterday and you were fine, I would bet that you are still fine.

The port incision takes the longest to heal because it's stitched to the muscle wall.  You will feel tweeks and twinges as you start to move more for several months.  Don't worry about the incision itself unless it turns red and is hot to the touch which would be a sign of infection.  Kath is right, itching is good!  Don't put anything on the incision like lotions, etc.  That could cause trouble.

Best~

Not much to add that the other ladies didn't already put in.  For me, the port still makes me notice it once in awhile - after flying, after any adjustments, and after a strenuous ab workout.  At first I would be totally panic'd.  But I've posted on the board, and tracked what makes it bothered.  I'm used to it now & if my husband or mom notices me rubbing the spot, I just tell them my port is talking to me.

I am so happy for you and your ambition, goals, and love for yourself that you took this major step to improve your health and your life.  I've had a few challenges (nothing major & mostly things I brought upon myself), but never once regretted making this decision.

Congratulations & keep us posted!!!

Liljenn, congratulations!  you're so close to surgery date!

Most important part of the liquid diet is to get in enough protien. 2nd most important part?  Drink LOTS of water.  Find a protien powder or drink meeting your doctors and nutritionists requirements.  I'm a freak for tomato soup, but that even got old for me.  One of my friends was a God-send.  She went out for chinese food one day & brought bag egg-flower soup.  She'd asked them to strain it before they put it in the container.  It was so yummy (couldn't do it too much cuz of the sodium which was a problem for me when I was really heavy).

You could also do a  search on the board for liqud diet.  Your Nut should be giving you recommendations as well.

Good luck!  No questions are too big, too small, or two ridiculous for the Board as you go through your journey.  I cannot imagine having gone through this without the help of everyone here.
