Starting from scratch......what now?
Has anyone here going through the process with Dr. Weiss in Georgetown, KY? I just went to my (new) physician today and she suggests that I consider gastric bypass. I'm 27 and I'm 5'9 with a bmi of 40. I'm actually scared of the risks, etc and I'm starting from scratch so I need a few good people to talk to. I need a gastric friend;) Thanks so much!

Nikki,
any questions you may have, i will try to answer them. im 36, had my surgery 9 months ago, down 112 lbs and i can actually outrun my 4 yr old, its a great feeling. there r risks with any surgery, but there r risks with being overweight too. my father was a big man, he ended up with diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, and eventually passed with cancer. i seen him go thru many things, i just didnt want to go thru these things at such a young age. im glad i had this surgery, and i almost walked away the day of the surgery. Thank God I didnt. just drop me a line any time. you can email me at [email protected] and i will try to answer any questions u may have. I had my sugery in huntington WV and all drs r different, but the outcome is the same...A much healthier life. This site is a great place to start with your questions, it has helped me tremendously.

I too am just starting this process. I am 5'4" and 246 lbs. My BMI is 42.2. I haven't discussed this with my primary physcian because I feel that I qualify already. I have researched for several months now, and have read hundreds of testomonials about WLS. I have researched hospitals, surgeons, the risks and the advantages and I feel this is the right thing for me to do. My husband is hesitant but said he would support me regardless of my final decision. I have chosen Saint Joseph East Hospital in Lexington, KY and am scheduled for their seminar on May 8, 2006. This seminar is mandatory in order to make an appointment to see one of the three doctors. I live in Pikeville and am 2.5 hours away from Lexington but you being so close I would consider Saint Jo if I were you. I found them by searching for surgeons on obesityhelp.com. There you can read the reviews from patients on both the hospital and the surgeon. I found this site very very informative and this is the basis on which I am scheduled to attend the seminar. My son in law is a physical therapist at Saint Joseph so I know it is an excellent hospital and he spoke very highly of the three surgeons there. My hope is to attend the seminar and get everything rollin' so I can make a change in my life for the better. Good luck with your search and journey. I wish you the best. I would love for you to email and keep me posted on your progress. My email address is [email protected] Looking forward to hearing from you.

Well I tried to email you from my yahoo, but for some reason it don't wanna work on this computer. My pcp referred me to the doctors in Georgetown. From what I've heard about them they are great. I should have my consult with them shortly. I'm just unable to lose weight anymore. I've been heavy all my life and I'm hoping Humana will pay for the surgery. Dr. Bolar at Samaritan done my husbands ex wifes surgery. I've heard hes wonderful. I just decided to go with Georgetown Bariatrics. Actually I'm going to a seminar Thursday here in Lexington, so I will get more info on it there. My husband knows pretty much all about it, so he's filling me in. Do you think that it's going to be hard to get insurance to pay? Right now my pcp put me on a diet plan so it'll be a good 7-8 months before I can even think about the surgery. I just know that I need it bad. You can email me at [email protected]
Later tater,
Natalie
Nikki,
Hi!! I would love to talk with you. I am a Bypass Patient, one of the many that Dr. Weiss and Dr. Oldham have performed. I also work at The Bariatric Center at Georgetown Community Hospital now. My BMI was 53 when I started this process, 5'5 tall and 302 pounds. Now it is in the low 20's and I have lost 182 pounds. I would do it again in a heartbeat, and I am partial to the program and the dr's here of course.
If you would like to email me, feel free to at anytime.
