Congratulations on quitting smoking. I know how hard it is. I have not quit yet because I have been waiting for insurance approval - should be any day now. The WLS dr told me I would have to be smoke free for 30 days, but it sounds like you have to go longer, please explain. I don't want this to happen to me.

It depends on the Doc on how long ya have to be smoke free. Doc Steiner told me the same thing! 3 Mos NO SMOKING. So I stopped when I started my 6 mos medically guided diet. He told me it was because it takes at least that long for the lungs to be healed enough to not become dependent on the breathing tube. The more you have smoked the weaker your lungs are and the more easily dependent you will become on that breathing tube, which is the LAST thing I wanted to have happen. So I figured since I was having surgery to keep myself from dying, I was just defeating the purpose by smoking. Not to sound preachy but it really IS the best thing I ever done aside from my wls. It is SO nice to be able to breathe and to not have people tell me I "stink like smoke" when I came in from a smoke break. I never realized how bad it was until I got a whiff of someone the other day as they came in. I always tried to keep my hands washed after I smoked but it never done anygood...oh well!
