Help. Post op no taste can't eat
Hi, all I had my surgery on March 3 , major complications. Surgery went well. Post op some junior resident overdid the fluids and I ended up on a vent for 9 days. What a horrible exprience. Went home on the 22th. I have been on some much medication that I have no taste. I tried to force the food but it takes like a dry cardboard. I am so weak. I have been using the protein shakes and the vitamens but still not enought to give me much energy. Please help. I need your support. I can only talk in a low voice because being on a ventilator bowed my vocal cord. What else could go wrong.

Patty, I feel so bad for you..it sounds like you have been through a bad ordeal. I wish I could offer advise about the eating, but I do not know what to tell you to try. However, I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.
May God bless you, and give you the strength and energy that you need.
Keep your head up, and try not to get discouraged, I know it is hard, but you have come a long way.

Hi Patty!
So sorry to hear of your difficulties. My mother in law was in the hospital a few weeks ago on a vent and a number of meds and had this very same thing happen to her with the her tastes.
She finally had to just make sure that she was eating super moist foods, and not worry about the taste. When I spoke to her today she says she is FINALLY getting some taste back.
Keep trying! It will get better. Just remember the more moist it is the easier it will go down!

Patty:
Sorry you have had so many problems but bottom line...you have to eat or you will get weaker and malnourished. Vitamins and protein shakes can only do so much.
You might need to see a dietician to help you during this difficult time. Best wishes.
