OT: I want a puppy!!!
I have decided that I want a puppy. My hubby and I have talked about getting a puppy for a while and then I went thru my surgery last year, we bought a house and moved. It seems like things have finally calmed down now and it would be a great time to get one...I have been checking in with the pound here, they always have puppies, but I want a ****er spaniel and they don't have any of those. I checked petfinder.com and nothing. I am going to star****ching the newspaper too. If anyone has a puppy or knows of someone who has some, let me know. It will be loved, spoiled and treated just like one of our kids.
Thanks
Ange
hi Angela, I raise yorkies. Small ones. My advice to you would be to get a meduim size puppy such as you mentioned. A ****er or a jack russel would be great with kids. You get any smaller than that and you will run into problems. While most children are trained how to handle puppies and to be careful, they often stumble or fall and can accidently kill a small dog such as my yorkies. My grandchildren are not allowed in my yorkie room unless I am there. Then they may sit on the floor and play fetch or hold the puppy. My five year old grandson was here last night and nearly crushed one of my yorkies. he was trying to get to the couch where I told him to go and the puppy was right under him when he tumbled off the couch. Small dogs and young children, say under the age of 12 or so just do not go together. Good luck in your search. Small beagles are also great with kids. They love children and can be raised in the house as a pet. We raise those also but ours are strictly outside dogs raised to be Field Champions. We do not sell to pet homes. BUT, you can usually find the pet beagles very cheap in the paper.
Just wanted to give you a heads up. The Boyle County Humane Society has a 2 yr old ****er Spaniel up for adoption. Hes solid black and a cutie. I think the website there is www.home4pets.com if you want to look at him.
I am normally on the IN board but am from KY so I like to look around. Just wanted to let you know another great kid dog are the Shelties ( Shetland Sheepdogs). Thats what we raise. And my mom has ****ers and they are quick to snap at my kids where the Shelties never have. Even after my 2 yo took ones temperature. Granted my kids are young so they are rough with the dogs.
