Sleep Study ?????

Hey guys, can anyone tell me what a sleep study is like? I go tomorrow to see my PCP my stomach has really been bothering me, so I think my hernia is really bad. I am going to have him refer me to have the psych eval, sleep study, and of course the biggie (wls). I am not to worried, but just have no idea what to expect. The staff at Right Weigh has been so nice so far, taking time to answer all my questions. I think we are going to have some scheduling difficulties, they want me to come in on Tuesday's and I can not. I have Monday and Thursdays off and can not change my schedule at all. That kind of stuff gets to me if I start thinking about it. I am keeping busy and trying to to though. Any way just curious about the sleep study.

Hi, The sleep study is not that bad really. I've had 2 of them, first they hook up all these wires to your body and your head, then you will go to sleep. I think most places will give you something to help you sleep. While your sleeping they monitor you from another room, stuff like oxygen levels, blood pressure, pretty much everything, they'll determine if you have sleep apnea or not. I didn't sleep very well at either one I went to because I'm so used to my own bed, but overall it's not nothing to worry about. hope this helps.

Hey Angela If you have a certain pillow that you have at home dont forget to take it. I took mine but it didnt help. Im use to my own bed.. The only thing that I hated what getting that yuk out of my hair. I have long hair and it was caked in there.. Had to wa**** out 5 times to get it out.. other than that its not bad. Like the other reply you have wires hooked up to you on your head and on your body to see how you sleep.. Just dont worry about it. Good luck on your journey...

I could not believe today...I went to my pcp and had every test in the world done (will know results in a few days) but they said everything was pretty good. They were so cool..documented all kinds of stuff to help with approval for surgery, gave me my referals and was so kind and willing to help. And to beat it all one of the nurses just had open rny about a year ago so she was telling the doc what to be sure and document. I called the sleep study office to ask about appointments and I go tomorrow!! Wow!! I was shocked, I have my psych eval in a week or so and then my consult with Dr. Shina. They said they were going to try and fast track me because of my hernia, but not to sure what the "fast track" part is. I still have to go to the seminar and nutritionist up there but they are scheduling that all at the same time for me. I just hope everything keeps going so smooth. I am afraid to get my hopes up that this is going to happen.

Hi Angela, I am going for a sleep study this Friday night at Baptist East, so I will let you know if you send me a reminder. I have Dr Geller and my information has been sent to Anthem for approval, still waiting. I haven't found many people on this site from Dr Shina & Dr Geller's office. It's kind of disappointing, but everyone else is great.

Thanks, Pam. Actually I had mine done last Thursday night. I did finally go to sleep but did not rest well. I am so glad I did not have to go to work, I took my daughter to school and went home and went to bed. I go back this Thursday for the results. I go to Louisville on April 6th to see Dr. Geller for the first time. I am trying to get everything done that I can so that when I go up there...hopefully..they will be able to submit quickly. I have found a few people here from Dr Shina and not as many from Dr Geller, but I like the info that I find here. It is very helpful and comforting. Keep in touch. Angela
