REVISION NEEDED

Hi Friends, I went to my surgeon's office today in Louisville ( Dr. Robert Cacchione). He said the result from my upper GI shows I need a revison because my pouch needs to be made smaller. I also have a huge gap in my stomach that makes me look like I have 2 belly buttons. It is where my stomach did not heal all the way together like it was suppose to. He said he could fix that with the revision. He also said because all of my co-morbidities no longer exist that my insurance probably will deny the revision. I need prayers that it will cover it. I had such a hard time with my last surgery, if I am approved I just hope it goes well this time. I want to lose this weight soooo bad. Sometimes I feel like a failure, then I look at what I HAVE accomplished with the surgery and I know its not a complete failure. I am depressed.....I've cried most of the day and my husband doesnt know what to say to me because I am so snappy. I dont mean to be mean to him but I have fought this weight battle my whole life and I know that surgery is a tool. but I have more knowledge on nutrition now than I did when I first had my RNY. please pray for me....and keep praying for me!!

Oh Girl, I know what you are going through. I am going through the same thing! I am gaining weight after a RNY back in 1999. I went in yesterday to talk to surg about revision, waited for hours, and was basically told that if it was "just stretched" then there was no real reason to do a revision. I was told: "Well, you are still 60lbs lighter than when you went in to have the original surgery..." I have to have an endoscopy next week and am a little scared. I guess I need to find a Dr. who will actually consider "just stretched" as a real need to do something about it. I would like to talk to you further if you can email me back at [email protected] You are in my prayers. Hang in there! Trish

Trish: Unfortunately, we are seeing a large number of patients who had their surgery at other facilities, come to us for laparoscopic revision surgery. Typically it is because their pouch is too large (stretched or made too large to begin with), and/or the stoma (pouch outlet) is also too big. Some of these patients didn't lose the amount of weight expected and some have regained most, if not all of their weight. Some insurances will pay if your BMI is at least 35 or greater and you have some health related conditions, like high blood pressure, sleep apnea, diabetes...just to name a few. Patient compliance is always a consideration as well. We know these surgical procedures are tools to assist us in our goal to lose weight and obtain better health. Unfortunately, some people see these tools as quick fixes, miracle or cures, and they resort back to old habits, which with time leads to regain. Unless the patient gets control of the behaviors and what is triggering them, like emotional eating, even a revision surgery patient can end up with regain down the road. Patients have to be accountable, committed and motivated to have the best possible success. Mandatory education classes, support group and follow-up visits are key to a patients success. We do offer (100%) laparoscopic revision surgery to a failed bypass. If interested you may call our toll free number for more information: 1.888.868.0008 Best Wishes...
