Hey Elizabeth, There are 2 that I know of in Louisville. Dr Mark Shina and Dr David Gellar at Norton hospital. A few people on this board have had there surgeries performed by these 2. I would have went there but the drive was too far for me. hope this helps, take care

Hey Tony...Thank you so much...i have research those two and seems like they are on the up and up...it also sounds like they are my only options...you would think that a city as big a louisville with UofL medical school there, there would be more then one group...LOL...i know here in this little beach town we have two...oh well...Thanks for all your help and hope things are working out for you....

Elizabeth, Dr. Shina and Gellar are not your only options here but I beleive they are the best. Especially Dr. Shina!! That is why I chose him for my surgeon when I had Lap Rny on 9-16-05. Plus Shina and Gellar have a Support Group at Norton Suburban once a month. There is alot of people there and if you prefer a much smaller support Group. Dr. Gene Hedden and Tami Sallade have a great one with only a 6-10 people in it much more personal I think. They are located on Shelbyville Rd. And if you need a great PCP Dr. Hammond and Rozell of Deer PArk Family are awesome and they are good with Bypass patients as well. If you want numbers and addresses email me and I will send them to you. [email protected] Good Luck and Welcome to Loserville I mean Louisville!! LOL!!! Hugs Judi

Elizabeth, I highly recommend Dr. Geller. My surgery is scheduled on Jan. 20 and I've found him to be very professional and caring. He operated on one of my best friends recently and quite frankly, he saved her life. You can see her testimonial on his web site. The support team seems to be very caring and I love the dietician...she is very helpful, and informative. Give them a call and see if he will take another doctor's patient, but I'm sure you will be pleased with him. Good Luck! Myra

Hi! Although I don't know an awful lot about the support groups, Drs. Jeffrey Allen, Rodriguez and Gaar work out of Norton's downtown. Allen trained all other doctors in Louisville who do bariatric surgery and is considered the best of the best in many circles--especially medical ones. I intended to use him until I discovered my insurance wont cover the lapband. Since VA uses Dr. Gaar (who is chief of surgery) and (as a disabled veteran my surgery would be free), I went to VA--same surgery, same doctor--didn't make sense to go on the economy. Anyway, I have mine scheduled for Jan 18--still havent told my boss. By the way, can any of you guys who have been through this give me an idea of the least reasonable time I might be off work. I'm a teacher and I could easily never get out of my rolling chair all day. I also heal very well and have a very high pain tolerance. Have any of you recovered in less than 6 weeks??? what can I expect???? Thanks DeAnna

Dr. Shina told me I could go back to work as a secretary (Sitting Job I have) after 2 weeks but I took the full 6 weeks cause i wanted to be off meds and no pain when I went back to work. I would tell your job you will be out anywhere from 2-6 weeks depending on healing. You basically have a sitting job as a teacher so you could be able to go back as soon as you felt up to it, though remember after surgery it is no lifting more than 10 pounds and a gallon of milk is 9 pounds so that give you an idea of restrictions. Good Luck Judi

Hi Elizabeth, welcome to KY! Dr Shina is my surgeon and in my opinion he is the best! I just love him and his staff to pieces. They are all so sweet. Dr Shina is sweet, funny, nice, and takes his time each time to sit down and talk with u. He is just amazing. I had my surgery on March 24, 05 and have lost 136 pounds so far. I wouldn't be where I am with out Dr Shina and his staff. Good luck and sorry it took me so long to reply...We have moved my father in law up here closer to us, he lived 2 hours away and the past few weeks have been hectic! Email me anytime u want to chat... Angela [email protected]
