looking for a surgeon
Hi I am looking around for a surgeon, I want and need bypass surgery. I actually live North of Lexington and I seen doctors mentioned from that area. how do you know who is the best? me and my wife will probably both have surgery, and maybe pay cash.....not at the same time naturally.
Thanks for your help
Chad
Hey Chad, Welcome to the board. It's slow here alot of the time but eventually someone will answer lol. Your definately in the right area of surgeons. St joe's east is where alot of people go, and Louisville. I guess you could just shop around til you find the right one. A good way to tell who the best is would be by looking at how long they've performed surgeries and how many, also there mortality rate. Georgetown has a nice facility. I had to find one that took Ky medicaid so I was limited, but I feel I've made a great choice with my surgeon. Cash would be the quickest way to get it done by far, but if you could get insurance to pay for it you and your wife would be saving ALOT of cash. good luck. take care.

Thanks
I am of course going to try to get insurance to pay..it is so expensive to pay cash I bet..we have arental house we will sale to pay for mine at least.
I have been reading about surgeons on the kentucky surgeons board and someone emailed me about a doctor in Geogetown.
He seems really popular has anyone else had Dr. Weiss?
There you go chad..I found this reply on the main message board, cut and pasted it for you here...I hope you have good luck finding the surgeon of your choice..Dr. Weiss is awesome and so is Dr. Oldham..

St Joseph east is by far the best comprehensive program in Kentucky ,they won the circle of excellence for bariatric surgery. My sister and my daughter had there surgerys done in georgetown. There after surgery program is in my opinion lacking.Unrelated to the talent of the Doctors I am sure ,but my daughter developed a blood leak and bled out.She had many transfusions and eventually its was under control but very scary. My sister also developed a leak that sealed itself just short of having to go back into surgery. So I have no fond memories of the time I spent with both of them at georgetown. My advise is to look at a surgeons record and the amount of sugeries they have done.
Good Luck
Beth
Chad, have you decided yet which surgery you will have? That might make the difference in which surgeon you choose. I'd want the most experienced surgeon with the lowest complication rate.
I chose duodenal switch and my surgeon is Dr. John Maguire in Dayton. DS was the absolute right choice for me and Dr. Maguire was wonderful. If you aren't familiar with DS, there is a duodenal switch board here on ObesityHelp or duodenalswitch.com is another good site.
If I had chosen RNY or lapband, I would have picked Dr. Weiss at Georgetown.
Best of luck to you!
