Hi Edwina, I know i may be a little late with this reply, but i also had the bypass done 11.10.2005 and the medical card paid for everything. You do have to have medical conditions as reason for the surgery. My surgeon is in the same practice with Rodriguez and Allen, Gerald Larson is his name and they are University Surgical Associates in Louisville. They have a wonderful bariatric team that are there from the time you go in surgery until the day you leave the hospital....Good Luck Michelle

I also have the medical card, and I am having a terrible time finding someone who takes it without slapping the fine print on me. I am wanting Dr. Sonnanstine. He has a program fee of $500 and $250 has to paid before they will send the paperwork on to medicaid. I don't have that kind of money. Just because I am poor, poor enough to need state medical coverage, doesn't mean that I can shell out tons of money that would have to be spent on my daughter first. I would like to find a surgeon that would maybe waive those fees, or send them to medicaid to pay for, just for people that would qualify. I know medicaid will cover these costs, but the dr. will not send them a bill for the psych. eval, or the nutriotionist or anything. If you happen to come across someone, let me know. I would like to schedule an appt. with them.
