I will begin a new policy with Humana-KY on 12/01/05 and I have called and spoke to a cust serv rep and she reassures me they cover WLS if medically necessary, I asked her how difficult it is to get approved but she really didn't want to say. That scares me. I am new on the message board, looking for help. I am 22yrs old, 213lbs 5'1 and miserable. I have a 14mth old and my one yr wedding anniversary is coming up on 11/15/05 and I do not want to have anything special b/c of my weight. When me and my husband met 3 1/2yrs ago I was so comfortable in my body now I cry after we make love b/c of the disgust I feel with myself. Mentally and Emotionally I feel this surgery would be beneficial. My husband never tries to make me feel uncomfortable about my weight, but I can just see he looks at me different, or really not looking at all anymore. That is not a good start on a new marriage. Just looking for someone who understands. Thanks, Cyndi

Hi Cyndi! One thing I cant tell you is that Humana requires a 6 month medically guided weight loss program 99% of the time. I am currently on my fourth month and just waiting to get through this and go from there. It will depend on exactly what your policy asks for to determine how difficult it will be to get your surgery. Mine only requires that I be 100 pounds over weight. (No worries there!) Hope this helps you somewhat!

Yes, that helps. I contacted my Humana consultant and she said they only required medical advisory, but ya know how that goes. They say one thing in open enrollment but when you get ready to use the policy there are all these new exclusions and requirements that were not there before. I am going to continue to wait and begin seeing a physician on 12/01/05 to determine my next step. But I know I have to do something because everyday that passes at 213lbs and 5'1 is making me miserable. I would be happy at even 150lbs but my "ideal" weight is 116 but that is the medical view point. So thanks alot for that little info about Humana, any little bit helps.
