What do I do now?

I am meeting with my pcp next Wednesday to discuss wls. I am worried that I will have to have so many months of documented weight loss attemts before I can get approval for surgery. I have tried many times to lose weight (portion control, reduced calorie, appetite suppressant) but nothing seems to work and I keep gaining more weight. I have never been put on a diet by my pcp (my weight has never even been brought up). Has anyone else had problems with the documented weight loss attempts? My insurance is UHC (who said that wls is covered if medically necessary).

I completed my 6 month of documented weight loss attemps in August. Insurance coordinator told me that the documention was not sufficent. Broke my heart, my Pcp is going to work with them to improve it, but proably not before the end of the year, which means I will have to pay a lot more money. I am a state employee, and we just switched policies. My insurance coordinator told me that Weigh****chers provided better documentation that the doctors office! Can you believe that? My insurance is Bluegrass Family Health. Good luck!

I have a friend that's having the same problem with BGFH. I completed my 6 month doc supervised diet in June and was approved in July. She completed hers in July and has been denied twice. We are both state workers (education) and have the exact same policy. She lives in Region 1 so they will be changing to self-funded Anthem BCBS. I wish you the best of luck and hopefully things will work out soon.

I had my surgery in 2002. I didn't have to have any type of documentation other than telling the types of diets I had tried and how much I had lost and regained with each.
