Weight loss with band
Good Morning Everyone,
I have a question for the Bandsters or anybody – How much weight did you lose between having the surgery and getting a fill? Initially I lost about 15 lbs but I think a lot of that was from the surgery. My follow-up is this Friday and my first fill will be July 10th. I’m just wondering if I’m doing good or bad. How many calories should I be consuming? I know my protein drink has “whey" too many carbs so I’m returning it today.
Valerie
Get it "Way" = "Whey". he he. I made a funny.
Good Morning Val. The weight loss really varies. In my group of 6, the wt varied from 15 to 50 lbs before the first fill which was 4 weeks after surgery. My doctor did not put any saline in our bands. So really you can make it what you want. Water, following directions regarding protein and exercise are the keys to great success.
Keep track of the successful and take their good points, inculcate them into yours. I am still working on myself to eradicate bad habits. Wishing you success.

First 80.5 pounds lost with 3cc's in a 14 ccband now at 7cc's in 14cc band
Weight loss with the band, really depends on the person, everyone is different. You can't judge your weight loss by what someone elses. I had lost weight prior to surgery with weigh****chers, so my weight loss after surgery was 10 lbs, but that was to be expected. I believe slow is better anyway. I use Amplified from GNC. Not all GNC's carry it but will get it in if requested, its high in protein and keeps you fuller longer, and the best part is it taste good.
Hey Valerie, I only lost about 12 lbs between surgery and fill. I was quite impatient (still am) but I also learned that if you take it off too fast you don't have time to tone and firm things up. Also, weight didn't go on in 4 weeks so don't expect it off that fast either. Healthier loss tends to be a little slower. Calorie-wise: instead of counting, star****ching portions and choices-try to stick with that 4 - 6 oz limit per meal now and it will make transition to fills easier. Calories are an individual thing and also depends on activity levels and metabolism. I know, I know....you want to put "numbers" to it because numbers are less ambiguous; I completely understand. Take your weight X 10 minus your age X 10 and that is about what you need to MAINTAIN (45 years old, 250 lbs= 2500-450 or 2050 cals.). Now add some activity and your "maintain level" increases and weight loss begins. Ideally my nut said I should be about 1200 cals a day when I was at your stage and carbs are not evil...just don't do them after 5 pm (except veggies and fruits) because they are an energy source....do you need energy to sleep? No...thought not; most people don't.
Good luck at your follow up and live the program!
