18 lbs. weight gain in 6 months! Original Post by Wonder Woman at 3:18 PM PST on 06/08/2007 Owen County, INRNY (10/05/2005) – Christine Gupta, M.D.
Okay folks...I had my 19month post-op visit yesterday and i am up from 179 to 197! Its amazing how slowing down on my exercising and the cappacinos I had daily added up....I had PS in Sept. last year where I had a TT, Bl so since then I had cut back quite a bit on my exercising......So word to the wise...although Im healthier than my top weight of 340....I do not want to get back over 200...and I'm dangerously close...so its back to the basics...I thought I would let folks now.....especially those who are checking into this surgery.....its great & life changing BUT its not a magic pill...its up to us to maintain a healthy lifestyle....this surgery can help...but you must follow the plan.....I am disappointed in myself...BUT I am going to get back on track and get back to where I want 2 be.  I wanted to post this to let folks no.....because I'm always asked "can you gain the weight back"  and the answer is yes you can....BUT again...its about choices.

Vickie, i was really touched by your post. You are really brave to put it in words and I admire your strength. We all struggle with the fear of regaining the  weight and most of us know some who have gained back all the weight and then some. I weigh daily just to monitor myself and keep in check. I don't geat myself up if it is up a couple of pounds but rather reflect on what I have been eating and remind myself to be healthy in my food choices. In many ways we on here are alot like an AA group. Most of us have turned to food as a type of addiction and it is so easy to fall into the old life habits. That is the best thing  about this forum, we can come here for support and understand the plight of others so well. Vickie I want you to come on her regularly and let us know how you are doing. You will make it sweetie and I know many of the wonderful people on here will be praying for you and rooting for your success. As Sherri says so often...remember you Protein, Fluids and Exercise. I have never been heavy into the exercising, but i really do walk alot more now and I keep more active. Shoot, today my daughter and I pulled weeds, planted 4 flats of flowers and hauled 20 42 pound bags of mulch around and mulched the heck out of our beds!! :o) I really am getting too old for this!!! LOL My daughter said she never remembered me ever working in the yard like this before. I know it has been about 20 years and with her being 25, I guess she has never known the thinner Mom. She told me today that she was looking at my before picture which I keep on the fridge and said she knew I was always a larger woman but never realized I was that big. I too have trouble identifying with the old me.....I thank God daily for my blessings and joys and I know you will make it thru this little setback!  Hang in there sweetie and know you are not alone and please keep in touch!! Vicki, I've been wondering where the heck you were girl! If you ever want to meet for lunch...or a walk at lunchtime, give me a call..k? (3-5432). Anytime between 11 &1 would be ok on most days.  Walking is the main form of exercise I get these days and usually it's 8000-10000 steps (4-5 miles) per day. It depends really on if I have PT (more steps) or having a computer day (less steps). With my foot surgeries, I had regained 10 lbs but have since relost 5 of that. I'm hoping that being active this summer & going to alot of amusement parks will help me lose some more. If not, I feel pretty comfortable with the weight I am right now...minus what I'll lose when I have my plastics this fall. I do try to emphasize Protein Water Exercise (PEW)...the basics for weight loss! Since I'm still having problems with my darn foot, it's alot easier for me to increase the 'PE' than the 'W' right now. I'm curious...is 179 your post-plastics weight??? Hon, you looked closer to 130-140!! I would have never guessed you a pound over 150! Stay in touch! Sherri

Thanks ladies for the kind words.........Yes Shari....179 was my pre-op plastics weight....(I'm 5'8).....I got on the scales 2-day and I'm down 3 pounds so........hopefully the upword trend had stopped...I have given up my Cappacinos(back to black decaff coffee) and have started exercising again....Babysteps, babysteps...... I'm not going to give up...........Folks are probably quick to assume that all I must do is eat with a 3lb weight gain a month...But I'm here to tell you I haven't ....by no****ching my protien intake...eating /drinking empty calories and lack of exercise can add up quick! Again thanks for the kind words.....I will definately be in touch.....we should walk together sometime...take care.
